Barry McKeown was raised in Lanikai and developed a reputation as a world class surfer, paddler and open ocean swimmer. He has paddled the Molokai Channel both on a surf ski and a member of a OC-6 crew. He also has coached a number of crews that have competed in the Molokai race.

A number of years ago Barry was in a severe auto accident, was in a coma for a period of time and as a result was paralyzed from the waist down. Once he recovered from his injuries he completed nursing school and continued to bike, snow ski, and paddle both in an OC-2, and OC-6. Barry is currently the head coach of Benicia Outrigger Canoe Club.

We hope everyone comes out and participates in the BARRY MCKEOWN CLASSIC.
