a long upwind paddle with the swine flu on a Hypr canoe that breaks in half just as you turn for the downwind run. Recorded by Rambo and broadcasted on the net for everyone to see.
i have the swine flu, hypr canoe and im doing the relay with a good buddy. ill let you guys know if its break......hope not. i dont want this topic directed to me
Training, conditioning, desire, techinique, canoe. What seperated the teams?
Like Nappy says, anybody can win if they train hard. I like his quote- "It's, how bad do you want it ?"
All these top paddlers are tough and Johnny Puakea has been training Danny, Mael, Jimmy and Simeon very hard. It is surprizing how Kai and Mike can fit it in with work and family. ANY team in the top 10 is tough and has put in a lot of effort and expense to do well as did everyone who paddled. Congrats to all who participated. The top women, LAuren and Andrea, are amazing athletes as well and they have kids!
I wonder what the results would have been had there been strong tradewinds.
mumbojumbo
Winners may have stayed the same but would have probably shaken around the rest of the pack quite a bit. Some really good surfers had to grind it out instead of connecting the bumps they are use to. Good day for the flat water and technique guys.
It was my first channel crossing so regardless of the conditions it was great for me. What a great group of people. Very motivating for a guy who hasnt even been on a canoe for 2 whole years to be around all those talented paddlers. See you next year for sure.

Forecast is light variable winds with east winds the couple days before. That sucks and its still way better than what the solo guys had to deal with.
