Under the dumb question category

Ok, I know there are no dumb questions, just dumb people who ask questions...

I've recently started my hunt for an OC1, having never paddled one before or even paddled anything resembling a canoe for the past 10 years.

So as I look at the classifieds, it would appear that some ama's are on the left side and some are on the right side. Under the dumb question category...can ama's be put on either side of the hull? And is there a correct side for an ama for a right-handed paddler?

Thank you for putting up with questions from a newbie to the sport...

hmm, i think it doesnt really matter. maybe it just depends on preference. Pretty much like oc4 surfing, its pretty much preference or which way you would rather have it drag out of the wave.

Personally i think that left rigged ama is better for right handed people, becuase you fly ama on the right side. so it might be easier and more natural to lean right. Not saying that you cant do it the other way around. like its been said, its personal preference.

But definitely demo first. Im not sure there are many makers these days, or new canoes that allow you to rig either side except for V1s. but yes, definitely demo first.
