0C6 OutRigger Canoe Needed Badly!

I'm a part of a men's group up here in Redding California. My friend Jeremy and I (Josh) both grew up in Kona Hi, and we've been creating a bit of a buzz on how we can start a team up here.

You see, we have the perfect lake (WhiskeyTown Lake) to choose from. And we may be-able to get some backing by our church or the city if we could just find a canoe.

Does anybody know anyone who makes the real deal?

Any leads would greatly help and be hugely appreciated.

Sincerely,

Joshua

I am interested in selling the real deal, Corta la Noche is for sale. She is taken from plans in a Tommy Holmes book called The Hawaiian Canoe. Shipping to CA would be easy.
She now has curved iakus and I am finishing the matching ama. Lots of attention to detail and some nice exotic woods, 100% epoxy saturated.

Joshua,

You could also contact Outrigger clubs along West coast to see if they have any old boats they want to sell. Purchasing an old broken boat for a reasonable price and fixing it up with a group can be just as much fun as paddling it. The respect and appreciation for the boat is gained by the group and makes it a great experience in an activity filled with very cool culture and heritage.

Jaco,

That's a beautiful OC6. Was that built just on Tommy Holmes book alone or did you have boat building experience beforehand? Very nice.

She was my first boat but I had done quite a bit of fix-it stuff. You learn real quick that there is nothing to do with wood and epoxy that you can't undo with enough sanding. We took our time and measured twice. Thanks for the compliment. Before working up the skeleton for Corta La Noche we built an OC 1 from Styrofoam as a warm up. She works well and the price was right, nothing is easy down here in Costa Rica.

As you are from Redding (closer to Oregon than SoCal)...you'd probably want to contact PNWORCA and check to see if there is any clubs wishin' to sell any of their canoes. There's a club in Bend and 3 or 4 in Portland....lots more in Washington.

You could also post on the (Canadian) CORA board, many Vancouver & Vancouver Island clubs that may be selling a boat. Shipping can be arranged in most cases.

My club is selling an OC3 if you're interesed, Vancouver Ocean Sports, contact Ryan Pogue.
