Mounting Garmin 305 on OC1

My OC1 is a Allwave Helium. How can i mount my Garmin 305 on my OC?
I don’t want him around my wrist, but mounted on my boat. Has anybody ideas with a few photos?

Here's another thread about mounting a GPS unit to an OC-1. Some pictures attached.

Here is a picture on how I mount my 305. the garmin goes around the padded portion and I use the little black clip to secure the garmin to the device and the big clip to attach the suction cup thing to the iako in case there is a whipe out.. if the iako brakes you are screwed...

Last weekend I had an idea. I mounted the garmin with a piece of foam secured with Velcro tapes under the seat. It works well.

If your seat was a bit longer forward, you could have actually cut a hole and shaped it to wrap the wristband of the Garmin through.

Looks good and it's simple.

I've been considering the new garmin for my training. It is like a wristwatch.
Plan one: is to put foam around the front Iako just before it enters the canoe. and mount the gps on the foam as if it were my wrist. close enough to be visible...communicate with the heart rate monitor and obstruction free. If I do it I'll update u guys later

Plan 2....wear it. as it is intended to be.

Plan 3....it.s paddleing...why make it so complicated.

just my thoughts

Ronnie, that's exactly what I had thought of doing, only further up the boat in between the foot-wells. Instead I ended up taking a piece of pipe insulation foam and cutting it into a bunch of 3 inch chunks (I'm forgetful, so I have foam pieces in my van, in my locker at the boat house, in my paddling bag, hidden near where I store my boat.....). Then I just wrap the garmin around the front iako.

I used to have the gamin mounted right in close to the hull, but it got splashed more often and I sometimes couldn't read it. I now mount it further out, near the apex of my front iako. It's perfect. As for securing it more to the boat, I figure if I've lost my front iako, I've got bigger problems than losing my gps.

One concern about having it so close to your seat: If you're really into monitoring your up to the minute speed and heart rate, you're not looking up, plus people are going to think you're obsessed with staring at your crotch.....

Personally I just use duct tape and secure my Garmin just above my foot pedals. Works great for me.

I wonder if someone could figure out a place to put it where looking at it wouldn't alter optimium head position.

My coach recommends the front aiko, I have mine high above my foot pedals which also works well.

I've got my old 301 on the front aiko of 'china polly' but the heart rate monitor doesn't work at that distance.

I just put My 305 on 2 of the front Bungee cords and it stays in place for hrs fine.

I have a 305 for my OC1. Get short piece of grey pipe insulation. Get some velcro patches. Put your 305 around the insulation like you would you wrist. Where the buckle is, just use a razor knife to trim it so it fits flush.
Put a couple of patches on your boat in a likely spot that you can reach and where you can see the speed and distance. Put the opposite pieces of velcro on the insulation. Now go to a store like REI or somewhere they sell the really skinny bungee strapping and the spring loaded thingees that secure the bungees. Be sure your bungees are skinny enough to fit through something screwed into the hull, like the cable guide between the rudder pedals. Run the bungee through that and through the watch band. If you huli and the velcro lets go you have the bungee keeping it on the boat and if that fails the whole thing should float!
Best thing about this set up.....it's really cheap and it works.

You could just replace the band with a length of velcro so you can easily wrap it round the iako or anything else you make up, still use it on the wrist this way as well.

Cost - $1.

Velcro onto OC1 infront of you, either in front of seat, between footwells, or infront of footwells. Bottom piece of velcro to the hull, then connect the straps as if around a wrist and put the other piece of velcro through and secure it to piece on hull. Easy, cheap, simple.

Own a Hurricane with a water bottle holder(bike type), strap garmin watch to water bottle holder, place boat in water and paddle!
