found this post on craigslist boats section.
Found one outrigger canoe, racing # of 409. found in area of nanakuli, floating about 15 miles out in ocean. Color is white with black writing, If you lost it call me at 808-638-2474

If that race number was from the 2009 season,
Some possibilities...
Madison Minkel had that number for Kanaka Ikaika races.
Beanie Heen and Pat Erwin had that race number for the Kaiwi Channel Relay
Not sure if or who had that number for PA'A

The paddler is well and aware of the events. The boat was lost during a Father & Son Hawaii Kai run about a week ago. One boat hit the other. The conditions were too big to save the damaged boat, father and son used the second canoe to make it back to shore.
It is a customized boat, so they are really happy that it has been recovered.
Maybe the paddler will tell the full story here first hand, we will see.
