Where you like paddle for novice one man?

Hey where you guys like paddle for a couple of novice one-mans? I practice 6-man at Keehi but that, Sand Island, Ala Moana get pretty busy after work. Anything on Windward side or is that usually too rough? I live in town and am hoping to find a close but not too busy place. Thank you.

Kailua off of flat island. Flat Island - Mokes (Mokulua Island) and Kailua to Mokulea Rock are usually good runs. Or surfing off flat island is fun too. Alamoana at around 5 o clock isnt REALLY busy and you can get a good workout form magic island - Diamond Head/Kewalos. Im sure there are others.

Aloha,

Unless you're with others, I wouldn't recommend a beginner run outside the Waikiki area, especially towards Diamond Head...not a good idea.

At least Kailua Beach you can stay close (relatively) to shore and if you get in trouble the winds/waves will bring you back to the beach...if too rough, then watch paddling movies.

Go Hawaii Kai, Kaneohe Bay and the Ala Wai. Between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., the places you mentioned are not crowded at all, even during lunch time, if you can sneak off?

It can get pretty rough in the Kailua area in winter, and sometimes summer, especially out by the Mokuluas. Like Koa says, Kaneohe Bay is a nice sheltered place to paddle inside the reef for novices.

Lake Washington is pretty good for novices. Stays pretty flat year-round, plus there's a lot of other novices to be friends with while you paddle.

Yeah (goto), novices that also like to paddle pretty much every day.

Ala Wai is a definite choice, though being that novices tend to dump over once in a while...yuck.

Hilo: Basic buoy runs. Then work your way out father past the last green buoy along the Hamakua coast towards the radio tower or Pepe'ekeo as your confidence improves (scan for tugs and barges!). Just be careful not to get caught by sneaker sets between Honoli'i and CBrewer's. Finish off with some surf at the lighthouse.

mackie22 - I usually paddle my one-man off lanikai/kailua/bellows on the weekends and it's not too busy. When it's windy it can be a little choppy but still fun. I'm a novice paddler as well, let me know if you'd like to join me.

If you guys don't mind more company, I am in the neighborhood and a novice as well. Never paddled OC6 - only a couple months on the OC1. Let me know at art@acolytephoto.com thanks.
