Macfarlane 2009

How big is too big to run Macfarlane? Or is there no such thing?

I think Mel Pu'u, Norm and the rest of the guys at Leeward Kai are salivating at the prospects of a Makaha like day...

as of now the predicted forecast looks something like this:

The way our Novice A coach put it last night: Outrigger will hold the regatta. It's up to each team if they want to participate.
Yee ha!
Lifeguards may be busy with their skis.

At the risk of dating myself, I remember one time in the late seventies it was huge. A legitimate six to eight (Hawaiian style) w/ the giant lefts breaking all the way from way outside Publics (Castles) across the whole bay. It took forever to finish that one.

As of Thursday AM, I heard CC Ocean Safety will make the final call.

so now with the fear of crashing like that. Would it be better you use a regular steering blade? a surfing blade? or carry two steering blades and pass one up to 5 when the going gets tough? Ive been told that for a race like that it would be better to use a regular steering blade. However, im not the biggest tickest guy in the world and ive tried surfing before, and i dont think i can hold anything over 3 feet with 4 sitting on the ama. any suggestions?

mahalo,
kcchee11

PS btw, i paddle huiwaa so ive got a week to try and practice aswell, coaches permitting.

Who gets to drink from the CUP today?

Have a good Macfarlane today guys, i recon it's one of the best fun race formats you can do. Exposes the sport to many more people.

We are trying to run something like this in Aussie, but keep hitting safety concerns all the time .... one day.

Cheers Rambo
