rudder cable

I'm building an oc1 out of 1 pound eps foam and i am trying to figure out the best way to run ruder cables. i used pvc pipe as an insert for the rudder shaft, and im thinking a small dia. pvc pipe might work good to set in the foam to run my cables through. Tips anyone?

I would think you could just set the plastic cable housing in the foam. Leave it exposed at the rudder and at the foot pedals - just like in a hollow core boat. No need for a bigger (heavier) PVC cable run.

As a benefit, though, the PVC could act as a stringer? Could add some stiffness to the overall canoe, if needed...

Get the polyethylene ( smallest diameter ) tubing from Home Depot.

Dig out smaller-than-tubing, straight line channels into foam and push the tubing into these ..

Straighten the coiled tubing by placeing it inside a metal pipe out in the sun for a day.

I have used this stuff for many years in my boats and it works perfect.

aloha,
