Stupid question...anybody transport OC1 with cover on?

Howsit everybody

Here?s a stupid question. Does anybody strap their OC1s into their car racks while they are still in the cover? We have a Da Kine cover. Not sure why I JUST thought about it but I figured with them being so long it might minimize bumps and chips during transport. But then is that a safe way to strap them in or is there too much play in the bag?

This beer tastes freakin good...

Just my opinion. No cover. Pad your racks. Tie down with reasonable pressure. Chips? Where are you going? Kaena at high speed? BTW a sincere question is generally not stupid.

i do sometimes. If im going to a race i do, especially if it rains. I know, its suppose to (and made to) get wet anyway, but i like to think of it almost like a car. I wash my boat, and wax it, and i hate it when it rains and gets it all dirty, all that hard work for nothing. Its stupid, i know, but its just a little pet peeve of mine. Plus, it shows a little care for your boat as well. But thats just me.

IMHO,

o.k for local but not for long ( high speed ) highway trips ... The bag can can get flapping and wear down the gelcoat / paint .. I've seen it happen more than a few times.

Also the boat and 'wiggle' around in the bag on the racks and have something else go wrong.

aloha,

I transport my OC-1's in a Sunbrella cover on my padded Yakima Landshark Saddles all the time to races/runs this past season, never had any problems.

I've seen others who do transport their OC-1's inside one of those padded oversized Da Kine Bags, don't seem to bother those guys either.

Now the only thing I can see that would fail would be if the tie-downs aren't tie-down good enough (i.e. loose enough for it to come undone or let the boat rotate and slide around). Always make sure to wrap up and or tie the excess/loose ends so they aren't blowing around slapping the boat or the roof.

If travelling long distances and high speeds, always check your load and your tie-downs to make sure nothing has come undone.

I always transport my OC1 in my "5 year and still going" Sunbrella cover especially here in the Valley of the Sun (AZ)! I travel 30 freeway miles to the nearest water spot at Tempe Town Lake and it protects my 'investment" from flying rocks and sand, opala, and da 100-plus degree heat!

"No whining....just PADDLE!"

Occasionally on long rides, my Polaris snuggles in a DaKine sock. I'm not as concerned about chips or nicks as I am with the effect of extended heat exposure. Most of the time the boat travels without the sock, strapped upside down on the padded surf rack and rear radius of my small truck. If it's going to be on the truck for long I try to keep it in the shade whenever possible and keep the plugs out of the pukas. I also take the time to cool down the hull with the plugs out when I put it in the water after a long transport.
