It was a beautiful day for a race. Just enough wind to keep it fun and interesting, but not so much that made it difficult. There were very competitive fields in both sides. I know the women's results better just because I was looking at my own canoe. It went: Beachboys, Beachboys, Hui Lanakila, Hui Lanakila, Beachboys, Hui Nalu, Lanikai, Lanikai, Beachboys, ... and more that I can't remember.

The men looked strong off the start. The first start was pretty much on time, right around 9:30, with the second start of really fast guys about 10-15mins later. I got to Makapuu just in time to see the top boats overtaking the first start boats. Lots of canoes really close together as they entered the more difficult water around the point. Drove up to spitting caves with plenty of time to see them coming around the corner. At that time it was Team Primo in first with Outrigger close on their tail. Hui Lanakila not far behind. Once the pack came in there were many canoes close together, all working hard. I got to the beach in Waikiki after the first few canoes had already finished, but it seemed that many had great Hawaii Kai runs. Seemed like a great day all the way around.

Men's race results are available under the Duke Race "Event", which you have to dig for since it's no longer an upcoming event.... Wahine results to be posted as soon as available. Aloha

the 10 minute penalty was due to the fact that you had to go on the outside of the orange buoy on the back side of Flat. if you didn't go around (i.e. cut inside to avoid the traffic) you were assested a 10 add on to your time.
