An update to an open ocean amusement park that shut down suddenly, leaving 253 people without pay.

Thursday, the owner tells us the company's money troubles are being cleared up.

Kandoo Island, a 98-ton steel catamaran that features restaurants, bars and a base for water sports, has been docked since early last week.

Workers' pay checks started bouncing, then Thursday, all 253 workers were laid off.

The company had said that money was coming in a little slower than first expected, so it couldn't even pay insurance premiums.

But today, it's CEO tells us they have found funding to get things running again.

"Payroll is made," said CEO Robert Maynard. "We went and made sure we got all our critical payments made. We'll put more money in next week we'll get everything settled. Insurance looks like it's handled. We look like we'll be in the water very shortly."

CEO Robert Maynard also was able to pay his mooring fees today.

There is a good article in today's Pacific Business News on the CEO. Looks like nothing but trouble to me.

Mahalo Kimo for the article. Looks like maybe some day we got to hold a huge "floatilla" of thousands of canoes to protest the State permitting private business to obstruct the existing public paddling routes, lanes and paths we've used for years.
