I have recently begun OC1 paddling and am wanting to improve on speed. Do you have any helpful training tips or routines?

A routine I know some of the top guys use is; 1 minute sprint, 1 minute rest, 5 times, with a 5 minute break after the fifth sprint, and repeat for an hour.. the fatigue caused by sprinting is from lactic acid, and you need to build up a resistance to this acid.. and an easy way to build up the resistance is by repeatedly exposing your muscles to the acid, and they will build up their own resistance, but the acid is only created when there isn't enough oxygen circulating, which happens in a sprint. So just do lots and lots of short sprints, and you will be able to see the difference.

Even if you're training for sprints, make sure you don't only do sprints, you have to mix a fair amount of long pieces in there. You have to work on aerobic a fair amount with the anaerobic excercise. Long pieces can help build strength and increase blood flow to the muscles, so my suggestion for a training routine is to do that one minute sprint one minute rest drill, but to alternate between those sprints and long pieces of an hour or more at a relatively hard pace.
