i know it's off the subject...but would you happen to have any info on the SPICA? i haven't met too many californians who have that particular canoe, and i was just curious if anyone has any feedback on her.

mahalo...

I have a spica, and it's somewhere in the pacific right now, on its way to california.. Zach will have it at all the races for people to demo. I used the Spica for the second half of last year and it's an awesome boat. It's a little hard to get used to, I'm still getting used to it, but i feel like even though its supposed to be a flat water canoe it really surfs well. Especially when the swells are coming from one direction and just sort of lineing up behind you, it'll catch those waves and track really nicely.. holding them for ever. I'm fairly positive there has never been a Spica in the California ocean, so we have to see how it does, but it should be pretty perfect water for it. It's also really really comfortable, probably the most comfortable canoe i've ever sat in. Anyways, make sure you come down to some of the upcoming one man races a little early and there will be a Spica there for you to try. I'm sure Zach will have more to say on the subject as he knows exact specifications etc..

It's not off the subject at all. PLEASE post any and all Kai Wa'a related questions here!

Spica - Specs:

Length: 21'
Beam: 13 3/4"

Kai Wa'a California will have two demo Spicas available for demo hopefully in about two weeks or so...as Luke said they're currently in the Pacific somewhere...but once they arrive they will be at most or all of the Socal races, and i'll be heading up the west coast for demos sometime in December as well. I hope to make a few of the Wavechaser races, probably the Dec 12th one for sure. also, you can always call or email me to arrange a demo when its most convenient for you.

The Pegasus sure is a beautiful canoe! Someone told me that some part of the rear rocker or some other part of the canoe was being modified to make to canoe narrower by some 3" or something like that to reduce the tendency of the canoe to nose into the water on a swell. The pics indicate that some modifications to the rear of the Peguses were indeed recently made. Any information about the modifications and the reasons for the modifications?

Honestly, Kai made ALOT of changes throughout the development of the Pegasus. Shoot he made a few just while i was there for four days in Oct. I know he did make some modifications to prevent the nose from pearlin' pretty early on in the R&D phase, i think i heard he "raised the rear", but exactly when and what i'm not sure. I believe the final modification he made was to raise the seat area a little, like 1/8". All modifications are done and the first mold is complete and i believe the first boat should have just been popped out in hawaii. California update: plug construction should start end of next week. If you'd like to discuss the pegasus more in depth please send me an email at zachary_j@hotmail.com or give me a call 818-482-0884. zach
