Replacing SS rudder cables

I'd like to replace the rudder cables on my hurricane. Does anybody know what size stainless steel cables I'm supposed to use? I've seen 3/32" O.D. cables but I think I need a smaller size. Any info would be helpful.

1/16" stainless steel cable perhaps? check out http://www.ocpaddler.com/article103.html or it could be found under 'Archives, then Inside Your OC1'

I just recently replaced the cables on my OC-1 and went all over the place Kilgo's, Home Depot, Yamashiros, West Marine and several fishing supply stores and they had the right size cable but were all to corse compared to the ones that were already on the boat. The problem I looked at down the road was that they might start sawing into the cable housing or not move as freely. Well I ended up buying the cable and all the hardware needed from Outrigger Connection for $11 compared to $20 at another Windward side canoe builder. Just save the time and go to them.

Some people say I should nix the SS cables and go for kevlar cortage, the stuff used in bows (as in bow and arrows). Its supposed to be lighter, stronger and does not corrode. Anybody have any experience with using this material?

Changed my rudder cables with stainless steel line coated with teflon. Don't know the product name off hand. Got it at WalMart, very inexpensive. It's been working good so far.
