23rd Annual Lanikai Cold Pack Classic Sat. Dec. 12

Dec 12 2015 9:30 am
Etc/GMT-10
Event Description:

THE 23rd ANNUAL
LANIKAI COLDPACK CLASSIC
Saturday, December 12, 2015

HISTORY: in 1993 when the Lanikai Cold Pack Classic was formed, there were only a handful of OC-1s around, with Kanaka Ikaika Racing Series dominated by Surfskis. Because of this shortage of canoes, the men and women had to race separately. It only allowed OC-1s because we were trying to build the sport and get everyone (all the ski paddlers) to try OC-1. It was also created to signify the start of training for the following year, as it used to be the first race post Molokai Hoe, held in November. Nobody was allowed to train between the Molokai Hoe and the Cold Pack Classic. But more than anything it was a good excuse to have a great party! Although now OC-1 have dwarfed the other crafts in numbers, the Cold Pack Classic is still recognized as an OC-1 event, however, we allow all other paddle crafts to participate as we encourage paddling.

Where: Lanikai Beach at Kailoena Dr. and Mokulua Dr. beach access

COURSES: Subject to change with weather
SHORT – Approximately 3.5 miles inside Lanikai reef: From Lanikai Canoe Club paddling site, around a buoy at Wailea point to a buoy inside the Mokulua islands and back the way you came. (All SUP and Prone on short)
LONG – From Lanikai Canoe Club paddling site, the course heads towards Waimanalo to Wailea Point where it rounds a buoy and heads around the Mokulua Islands and Flat Island, then finish back at LCC paddling site (appx. 5.5 miles).

KEIKI –Prior to the adult races we’ll have a keiki course(s). The Keiki course will have age groups based on participation with a cap of 12 or 13 and under depending on how experienced a 13 year old might be. 14 and older can race the adult short course.
