Punana Leo o Honolulu Makahiki Maoli Festival Heihei Waa Results
Aloha nui no kakou e na kanaka hoe waa e kakoo mau ana i ka olelo oiwi o ko kakou aina aloha!!
Mahalo nui loa to everybody who showed up yesterday to race and support the keiki of Punana Leo o Honolulu. This was our first ever Makahiki Maoli Festival Heihei Waa and I think it was a great success. I didnt have the highest expectations as far as turnout for this race because it is a new race, but we officially had 89 entries in yesterdays event and over 100 paddlers! The paddling community really showed their commitment to our islands, our culture, our language and especially our keiki. The wind wasnt blowing too strong and there didnt seem to be any big bumps to catch, but their was definately movement going towards Waikiki and some little bumps to get on. So again, mahalo nui to all who supported.
I would also like to thank all of our sponsors: WELLS FARGO HOME MORTGAGE BANKING, OIWI, KAMANU COMPOSITES, MUTUAL PUBLISHING, ZIPPYS, KIALOA, GNC, TAHATAI, KAENON, PATAGONIA AND HOEKAHI PADDLING COMPANY. I would also like to thank the individuals who donated to make this race possible for us to put on.
This was the first time Punana Leo o Honolulu has put on an event like this, so I apologize for any confusion there may have been with results, registration or the race itself. It was a great experience for all of us involved and we cant wait to do this again next year and make this race better and also open it up to other divisions like V1, SUP, surfski and paddleboard.
MAHALO NUI LOA to Manny for helping us out on last minutes notice and allowing us to use the PAA numbers issued to paddlers for this years season. We were having trouble getting hold of stickers for boat numbers and on only a couple days notice Manny donated his materials and time at our registration tent and also after the race with the results.
Again, mahalo nui for everybody who came down and supported our event. I hope everybody had a good time and a great lunch back at Kapiolani Park.
We hope to see you all next year at our 2nd annual Makahiki Maoli Festival Heihei Waa!!
Me ke aloha a me ka mahalo palena ole,
Ka ohana Punana Leo o Honolulu
