Hawaiki Nui Va’a 2009-Day 3

Couldn't find any pictures of Day 2.

Insteresting to see how much Team Hawaii struggled in the flat on Day 2 but on Day 1 did well in the channel and surf.

OPT has a shot. They won by nearly 2 minutes on Day 2 and that shows strength, but as I remember this has been a pattern with Shell Vaa win Day 1 struggle Day 2 and smash on Day 3.

Submitted by Kona J on Fri, 11/06/2009 - 5:02am

Is your position marked by cummulitive time?...if so team hawaii is still in top 10 ..is day 3 on the flats or some surf?.

#1 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 6:41am

Team Hawaii is currently on place 12 (cumulative)

see: http://www.hawaikinuivaa.pf/classement-2009.html

As regards Shell and OPT, this did indeed happen more than once, that OPT won the second leg ahead of Shell...Though at the end Shell had the best overall results!

This year the third leg will again be decisive...this means lots of suspense!

Depending on the weather conditions Hawaii can again come back in the top ten, provided there is surf...usually the last leg has good surfing conditions, sometimes even quite big surfing conditions...let's cross the fingers for them.

Also, I cross my fingers for the German Team to succeed and arrive in good health! It is their first race, they have never paddled on the sea before the Hawaiki Nui...so far they have finished the first two legs.

...okay, now wait for the start!

#2 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 6:57am

how can hawaii be 12th?...they have a cummulitive time of 5:45:24

#3 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 7:03am

Shell changes positions for the last leg, putting Taaroa Dubois as faahoro (first position)! He was on fourth position in the second leg.

If Shell wins, Shell wins overall, if OPT wins, OPT wins overall...

Apparently, the race (third leg) has startet 10 min before official race start

#4 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 7:06am

They are 12th because not only the time counts, but also the position (place) in the respective legs.

They were 6th in the first leg and 18th in the second leg.

This means, even if you have an overall better time, you can end up behind...

#5 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 7:09am

300mts lead for otp, its pretty much a done deal, unless they get into truble, wich i doubt

#41 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 9:36am

sensational!!! OPT seems to fly and may show that Shell is not invincible

For OPT:

Georges Cronsteadt as Faahoro (Stroke)
Teiarii Tekura as Tare (Captain)

#42 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 9:38am

aloha everybody....

thks for the updates... Taaroa is calling the staff, seems he needs something... OPT is far away, and coah rené ask opt to increase the tempo....

Taaroa is asking for drinking...

#43 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 9:42am

OPT now 500 m ahead!

#44 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 9:43am

5OO hundred meters beteween shell and opt, shell is having hard time, lot of boats following opt so they making waves, well that's hawaiki nui.. aloha

#45 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 9:45am

Shell changes course...best thing to do I guess

#46 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 9:46am

Confirmation from the radio, shell is changing the cap now, because of all the boat following opt... it's strategic.... that's happening right now

opt will be refill soon..

#47 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 9:46am

I have to drop out for a while...fa'aito ito!

#48 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 9:47am

10h05, opt still ahead, but now 300 hundread meters betewwen them, seems changing the cap is good idea,

#49 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 10:05am

shell seems to get close to opt, there is a spot name "turi roa", at that point most of the paddlers will know about their chance to win, well the end is at the line.. but it's just to give you an idea

#50 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 10:08am

1-OPT (more than 800 m ahead, getting comfortable advance)
2-Shell
3-OPT B (just passed the pass of Turiroa)
4-Paddling Connection
4-Bora Bora
5-EDT
6-Air Tahiti
7-Matairea Va'a

By the way...hard race for the foreign teams, since the weather is hot hot hot, lot of sun!!!

#51 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 10:19am

Radio speak; "turi roa" is now pass, 8OO hundred meters ahead shell, OPT probaly have a big chance to win this last step....
speaker says "shell is moral down", well I dunno, but the distance is getting far and far....

#52 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 10:18am

OPT is going to win, shell is down, speaker says....

#59 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 10:40am

OPT will almost get into the lagon, shell reach opt very fast....says the speakers

#60 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 10:41am

OPT is now inside the lagoon, shell is still trying to catch opt, now both team will show their power on flat sea...

#61 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 10:42am

OPT took 500 hundred meters again ahead... 10h47
seems opt has a better canoe than shell in flat water, and strong wind..

OPT took again another big distance

#62 Fri, 11/06/2009 - 10:47am

Aloha everybody,
