The 3th edition of the ‘North Sea Outrigger Canoe Championships’ (NOCC-2006) was again a great success. 46 OC1’s came to start in the 20km long distance race. Paddlers from France, Italy, UK, Holland, Belgium, Hungary, Zweden, Spain, Australia and of course Germany. Martin Budday (Germany) was for the 3th consecutive time unbeatable in both the ‘Long Distance race’ and the ‘500m Sprints’. Ending 1st Overall, he took home the latest ‘Tsunami Allwave’ OC1. Second was Olivier Petillion (France) and third Eller Frank (Germany).
The women race ended in a surprise. Jellonnek Sarah from Saarbrücker Kanu Club (Germany) surprised top favourite Steraj Sandra (Ending 3th overall). Second overall was Kendal Mayes who won the sprints on Sunday.
The 20km sea kayak race ended in a victory for Bracke Christophe (Belgium) finishing in 1h34m.
This year the NOCC was a though challenge, the existing waves were hard to surf, current and wind came from the opposite directions, creating confused waters. The last upwind run from Zeebrugge to Surfers Paradise was one to remember when winds picked up to 5-6 Bf. After 2 years of racing in flat seas, the Outrigger community were finally paddling the real ‘North Sea conditions’.
The NOCC will again take place next year, the second weekend of July. We would like to thank Peak Performance & Allwave canoes for sponsoring the event.

See you next year !
