Feb 29 - Tough Conditions Challenged by Kauai'i Paddlers

Paddlers muddled through sloppy conditions in the YMCA Kaua'i Hoe Wa'a race on Sunday. The decision to change the course due to conditions was well-founded but there just was little in the way of waves to ride. The usual suspects vied for position in the long course with Noe Sawyer taking first in the Open Women and Margie Goodno not far behind. Hipo Princena inched a bit closer to David Beck this run with Butch Keahiolalo and Steve Cole paddling it out for third and forth respectively.
Richard Pettigrew ruled the short course and Joy Chow won the women's short. A crew of slightly worked but happy paddlers sat down to lunch sponsored by Brennekes and Steinlager at the Poipu Beach Park following the race. The next race in the series will be the the always-exciting Kalihiwai to Ha'ena run on March 14th. Meanwhile Kaua'i World Challenge relay partnerships are being forged as the big race, slated for May 8th looms closer. Be sure to join us for the Steinlager- Pahio Kaua'i World Challenge where paddlers from all over the world will duke it out for the biggest purse winnings in OC1 paddling.
