Ask ocPaddler: Considering weight/size in boat purchase?

An anonymous reader asks: "When choosing an oc1 should the weight of the paddler determine the type of boat to purchase. What type would a 6'3" 240 pound male consider ????"

What's your advice? Post in the comments of this article.

This questions was asked in the FAQ, but since I can not really answer this myself, I am posting it on the front page. This type of post can be a regular thing..if the community supports it. Just submit news with the topic: Ask ocPaddler. So make it work, tell us your opinion!

I would probably stay away from small boats like the Hurricane, a great boat, but uncomfortable for a person your size..Although you do see guys your size using them..

where do you paddle? that might be something to consider

I agree that the Hurricane lacks the volume for your bodyweight. I am 6'7 215 and have had great results from the Makia in flat water and like the Stingray in the surf.
