STARTS

♦ COURSE CHANGE!! RACE FINISH AT KAIMANA BEACH
♦ Please read the Starting Times Information sheet.
♦ Start times are staggered for the safety of participants in order to have a tighter race pack that safety boats can monitor most effectively.
♦ Please use good judgment and don’t race if you are unfamiliar with the race course. Officials reserve the right to deny race entry to any participant.

PARKING – Please do not park in trailer stalls at Hawaii Kai Boat Ramp. Parking in marked stalls only – cars will be cited. If we do not comply with these rules we will lose our privileges to hold races in Hawai Kai in the future.

AWARDS – Please join us for lunch, awards, and entertainment to follow at Compadres Restaurant. The parking structure at Compadres Ward Center has a low clearance so paddlers should park across from Dave & Busters or at the ward center parking.

LONG COURSE – Makapu’u to Kaimana:

Those who will be in the 1st start at 9:45am are:
♦ All female OC1 and SS1
♦ All masters age 50+ OC1
♦ All OC1, OC2, and SS1 finishing more than 25 minutes after the 1st place overall OC1 finisher of the last Kanaka Ikaika Race from Makapu’u to Magic Island. (See results below)
ß If you didn’t race but normally finish about 25 minutes back, you must start at 9:45am.

Those who will be in the 2nd start at 10:00am are:
♦ All other OC1, OC2 and SS1 paddlers.

*** Those who do not comply with starting times will be disqualified.

SHORT COURSE – Hawaii Kai to Kaimana

♦ All paddleboards and standup paddlers
♦ All masters age 50+ OC1 and SS1

12TH ANNUAL KALA KUKEA IRONMAN CHALLENGE

Event Description: 

Hui Nalu Canoe Club will be sponsoring a fundraising event dedicated to the memory of Kala Kukea. Kala was an inspirational leader at Hui Nalu for many years as a paddler, coach and friend. This race honors him and what he strived to share with others - the sportsmanship of canoe paddling, the spirit of competition and his aloha towards friends.

The race will have the following divisions: 6-man, Surfski, OC1, OC2, Age group, Novice, Open, Master, Mixed.

PLACE: Maunalua Bay - Pinky Thompson's Halau
TIME: 10 AM start
COURSE: Triangle course (approximately 7 miles) The start line is at Marshall Rosa's beach, take a right turn at blinker buoy, down to Kala's buoy outside of Aina Haina, back up and around anchored bouy off Portlock Point and finishing back at the Hawaii Kai boat ramp.

REGISTRATION TIMES:

Race day registration - Saturday, February 24th 7:30 - 8:30AM
Entry fee - Adult : $30 18 & under*: $15

*Please note: 18 & under crews must have an open steersman.
(The entry fee includes registration, race participant tank, lunch and awards for the top three crews in each division.)

Participants are encouraged to take advantage of parking at the Park and Ride parking lot across from Tesoro gas station on Keahole St. Parking is limited at the harbor and citations will be given to those vehicles parked on the grass.

Canoes for 6-man division are encouraged to be at the Hui Nalu paddling site on the evening of Saturday, March 25th. Personnel will be available to help with the canoes and assist in the parking of the trailers from 5 PM.
