No Koas at Nanakuli

I thought it was a strange site seeing a trailer with two Koa canoes heading back to town from Nanakuli at noon. Surely the regatta could not be done so soon! As I arrived in Nanakuli someone mentioned that the race was "cancelled" but they were still doing the race for fun in fiber glass canoes. At 12:30 PM, the 15 year old mixed crews were starting their race. It seems that the South swell wrap caused some morning surf at the site of OHCRA's Leeward Kai Regatta and one or some Koa's got some damaged. Hopefully those Koas are not too badly damaged. Great to see people still hanging out despite the circumstances and supporting Leeward Kai CC!!

Karel at Lanikai. Wheres Kai?

So what, Lanikai stacking this year? Holla back coconut wireless...

Where to paddle around Aiea & Pearl City?

Hi all,

Does anyone know where one can go to paddle one-mans around Aiea & Pearl City? I see the Pearl Harbor club that practice in the harbor but don't know what the policy is about paddling in the harbor by Aiea Bay. Or even at blaisdell park at the intersection of Kamehameha and Kaahumanu? Don't want to get shot by the MP, hehehe.

Thanks in advance.

1st annual Race for the Reef

At Epic's Surfski championship race Sunday, the MC announced the "race for the reef" on the following Sunday (May 25th) with OC-1/2, surfski, paddleboard, etc. divisions. Googled it and found this;

I know nothing about the International Year of the Reef beyond their website, but this sounds like it could be a good cause and an excellent excuse for a run. Anyone have a heads up on this? Planning on going?

Outrigger Canoe Paddlers rescued 14 miles off Maui.

Upon reading the news this morning, I have became interested in just who, how and why this occured. Just checking in to understand what the paddlers were doing in the early morning hours. I understand they were equipped with life jackets and radio. Were they attempting to cross the channel. Where did they launch from? Where were they going?
