Tahitian OC-1

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows where/who I can get a Tahitian OC-1, similar to the model used at the World Sprints?

Thanks!

Sea Creature

The sea was angry that day my friends. The day was March 11, 2008. The place was outside Sprecklesville on the island of Maui. I had been here once before under different circumstances....but that is another story. Departing from my scheduled workout for the day I decided to venture outside beautiful Kahului Harbor to do an out and back course. Starting upwind along the coast and then out around the surf break I finished with the wind back into the Harbor. However, this wasn't just any usual ho hum OC1 paddling exercise. As I was surfing my majestic pahoa, in mint condition mind you, in some small troughs my pahoa and I came to a soft sudden stop. The hull of the boat was raised off the turbulent ocean into the air. Instinctively I put my paddle over my ama and leaned to the left. The boat and I were then flicked over by an unknown mass from beneath. I wont lie to you friends I was terrified! I got back into the boat faster than ever before and caught the next immediate bump. Obviously I survived however my pahoa needed some counseling following the incident. The culprit is unknown but I am guessing one of the following: Giant squid, killer whale, screaming eel, great white or just some kind of whale.

Spring Training

Hey....any one out there have a weight training regime to get ready for the first spring paddle? Looking for something that includes weights as well as cardio conditioning.....cant seem to find a complete work out or one to build from....cheers all :)

So Here I am!!!

I am so excited to learn as much as I can about paddling! I absolutely love it, and am working hard to make myself better. I hope all of the great info on this site will help me!

I am a lone female OC-1 paddler in FL, my only competition in the state (she was still 5 hours away to start) moved out of the State. I compete against guys, which only makes me stronger, and has made me capable of holding my own. I live on the west coast of Florida, on the Lake of Mexico - so we don't get rough water often. BUT when we do get it, it's narly, big, steep wind chop. I've gotten good at working those waves, and to most people those conditions would be intimidating. If a hurricane comes into the gulf or a cold front comes down in the winter, we'll get swell, but those are easy compared to the other chop. No matter what the conditions, it's me and the guys - I'm still the only girl out there. I am the captain of the Kai Aniani Canoe Club's Wahine team, so I have a bunch of girls just getting into paddling, I hope they will be able to challenge me eventually...

I have goals of doing REAL races in the future. It would be nice to get a gauge of how I am doing amongst other paddlers. It would be awesome to also get to paddle a 6-man in a REAL race too. Hopefully soon!

Wanted - a 6-man canoe in Utah

We are starting a canoe club in the city of salt and need an OC6. Used it or a really good deal on a new one. We are looking for paddlers also.

Live Webcast for OC-1 and OC-6 races!

The past two years I've been watching the ASP WCT (Association of Surfing Professionals/World Championship Tour "Dream Tour") contest online and wondering what if there was live webcasts for our OC-1 races and OC-6 races. Now the entire world and viewers can watch Kanaka Ikaika, PAA, etc. races online and watch their heroes battle it out and experience the action and drama first hand. Like the WCT webcast, they can have paddler or team profiles, interviews and commentating through the entire race. The only time spectators see the paddlers is when they paddle towards the finish line and not knowing who was battling with who, the fierce look in the paddlers faces while battling each other, and the size of ocean swells that are being surfed by our best. For OC-6 channel for example, we can actually watch Lanikai, Team NZ/HI, and the visiting tahitians batte it out.

Just watching surf contest online is exciting especially when you got Kelly and Andy in one heat with skatepark waves or the newly high profiled tour rookies like Dane Reynolds and Jordy Smith busting sick moves. I would sign on online to watch Karel out surf everybody or watch Kai's intensity as he paddles or the Lanikai young guns, Ryan and Jack, make their move on the vets.. And like surfers, each paddler has their flair and style especially in the surf.
