I recently went to Vaka Eiva 2007 , Rarotonga, Cook Islands.
really enjoyed the racing etc.

For all the hype, all be it well deserved in the OC6 how come they havent done that kind of damage in the Molokai Solo ?

Looking to buy a canoe soon and was wondering if anyone has paddled in both of these canoes. pros/cons?

Brada Mel is hosting his 3 rd annual Canoe Surfing Championship @ Makaha Beach. The dates are Dec 1st and 2nd and alternate dates are the 8th and 9th if the waves are flat. The event will start at 7:30 am. It is a fundraising event for steersman Leighton Look. He was paralyzed from the neck down in a diving accident and is now confined to a wheel chair. All proceeds from this event will go to Leighton's family.
This event also gives us the chance to perpetuate the art of Hawaiian Canoe Surfing as well as stand up surfing. We hope you can come and participate and enjoy the beauty of Makaha Beach. If you have any questions please post a comment and I will get back to you. Mahalo.

We Just had a meeting today to discuss changing the finish back to Hawaii Kai for the Solo race next year....
Basically it's a done deal and it should be officially announced with the new website launch etc in Dec-Jan...

This we felt best reflects a true point to point crossing and for most a much shorter day than going to Waikiki...
Boat drivers like it better to as they burn much less gas and time.

Also we are talking, (only talking at the moment) about moving the race to the first Sunday in June ( June 1 or June 8th) to de-conflict with the Hula event that takes up much of the lodging at Molokai over that weekend. I realize regatta is starting at the same time but none the less its being discussed... Please let me know your thoughts on this.

Thoughts and feedback are very welcomed on both topics please.

whats the molokai solo deel where is it going to end up

Is there a market for hand-built cedar strip outrigger canoes? I'm building an 18' OC2 based on the traditional Hawaiian design. The boat is absolutely gorgeous with a natural finish and a red ama. I live on the small coast of New Hampshire, and am in the water year 'round. It does get cold, but wetsuit technology is a wonderful thing. I'm really just looking for other folks on the east coast who might be interested in a wooden outrigger, and would love to get together with other paddlers/surfers/sailors.
We do have a sailing rig option for this boat, and it flies. Check out the latest pic from the boat shop, and let me know what you think.
