I need help picking an OC1

I was looking for an OC1. (hopefully a used as i do not have a lot of money) I'm 6 foot and weigh about 175 lbs. What would be an ideal canoe for me?

Rosehill cedar strip Va'a style six-man. Coolest boat I ever seen.

Lovely - just the question to stir the kettle since its been hashed over and then someone or people will ask questions in response to your questions, such as,... well, it depends, where will you be paddling, what type of waters, what's your experience, etc. etc.

But just my own personal opinion, the Pueo looks really sweet - only because its got the coolest looking ad with the Pueo and canoe sitting on Lanikai beach with the moks in the background under the moonlight. Bad reason for choosing an OC-1 but good reason to promote the guys at Kamanu Composites =D

As for your body weight, I believe the weight cutoff preferences are near 175 and thus it would be Polaris over the Pegasus, Zepher over the Fuze, but ultimately, theres really only one choice - the beautiful Pueo =D

If youre on O'ahu, probably best to call Kai Barlett, Karel Tresnak Sr., Keizo/Kelly/Luke/John,John Martin, John Foti and anyone else I left out, see if you can do a test run outside Kailua where you have the flats and rough and see how you like each of these - heres some previous posts related to yours...

Garrett - Where are you paddling?

doesn't really matter what OC1 you choose but you have got to make sure you choose the right colour.

Forget color, its all about the stickers!

C'mon guys, its not the color or stickers. We all know that flame graphics make a canoe way faster.

Agree with Kala...Pueo looks pretty sweet! Now being a Kaimana owner I may be a little biased ;-)

However you asked about buying a used boat...a Kaimana would be a good used ride if you can find one. Your weight is ideal for many boats - including the smaller volume rides like the Pegasus, Fuze.

I am 198lbs currently and my Pegasus and Kaimana run pretty sweet for me even at my current weight. Owned a Fuze last year which is bigger than both of my current boats so it is not too small for your weight either.

Take your time, try a few different boats and find one that is comfortable and works for you.

to answer questions i live in southern california and im going to use the canoe to just hang out paddle around, intense work outs, learn to surf, and if i get good enough id like to compete

Garrett since you are in SoCal I am sure you could find a used Kaimana that would be pretty fun for you to paddle and eventually race in. Especially with people trading up to Kainalus and Pueos now.

Danny Ching may be able to hook you up with a good used Kaimana .
Good luck

Just to get a rise out of Jim, I'll put in my usual plug for Huki.

your fine goto. the post wasnt trying to sell anything. it just came up in the dialogue so I think thats ok. im curious tho, should the sale of new canoes be in the classifieds? or should they get a paid ad??
