Thanksgiving "Turkey" Day Paddle - Maui

It was another beautiful day in Kihei, Maui for the 5th annual Thanksgiving “Turkey” Day Paddle. It all started at 8:00 am at Kama’ole Beach #1. Light winds from the south east at 5-8 miles/hour greeted the participants for the 3-4 mile paddle from Kama’ole Beach #1 to Kihei CC (Sugar Beach).

The first paddler started at Keauhou Bay and tagged their partners 6 miles later at Kamakahonu Beach. The second team member started at the beach at Kamakahonu, paddled out and around the Coast Guard Buoy and finished inside Honokohau Harbor, to complete 5.5 miles for the second leg of the relay.

Started in 1997 by Polynesian Paddling Products founder, JJ Logan, this race is exclusively for "Masters Age" paddlers, and also attracts competitors from Oahu and California.

Ra'i wins Hawaiki Nui Va'a 2004, Shell Va'a 2nd - Oct 22

Ra'i won the first two legs. Shell Va'a hammered to a first place finish in the last leg, but Rai's point total gave them the win. Pirae Va’a Mobil finished third. Hawaiian Canoe Club, the one team from Hawaii, finished 41st. Seventy two canoes finished.

Sept 18 - 3rd annual E `ilau Hoe Kakou - Maui

Maliko Gulch to Hanaka`o`o, Canoe Beach Maui Canoe & Kayak Club
34 miles

A small but competitive field of paddlers left Maliko this morning, headed around Kahakuloa, and finished in warm West Maui. Not your average little jaunt in the park.
