Conveniently located at the Toronto Sailing and Canoe Club, just west of Downtown Toronto, the TSCC Outrigger group has existed for over 8 years and participates in races in Canada and the United States. In 2005, our members excelled in many paddling events including the Liberty World Challenge, the 2005 World Masters Games, the Yukon River Quest, and the Texas Water Safari. We are a dedicated group of paddlers with a focus on developing efficient techniques and strategies for endurance paddling. With experienced coaches and paddlers, we have translated this approach into a winning record in various types of outrigger canoes

We will once again be hosting the Toronto Harbour Outrigger Challenge, a 23+ km race around the Toronto Islands which offers varied water conditions.

Gibsons Paddle club

The Gibsons Paddle Club is located on the Sunshine Coast a 35 minutes ferry ride away from Vancouver. It was created in 1999 shortly after the first Howe Sound Outrigger Race took place in Gibsons on the challenging waters of the Georgia Straight and Howe Sound. Outrigger paddling was then introduced and promoted through out the Sunshine Coast and is still very alive. Our members paddle all year around. Since 2005 , GPC has expanded to include Dragon Boating.

This two day event challenges an international field of outrigger canoe, kayak, and surfski paddlers in both sprint races and a 23km+ course around Toronto Island.

In 2005, over 70 competitors, including 8 former Canadian National paddling team members, participated in the inaugural race hosted by the TSCC Outrigger Group. This year, the outrigger clubs from across the Greater Toronto Area including Fairport Aquatic Club, Toronto Outrigger Canoe Club(TOCC), Toronto Sailing and Canoe Club(TSCC) Outrigger Group, and Wai Nui O Kanaka Outrigger Canoe Club, are joining forces to host an international event. Over 150 participants are expected to attend the two days of competition including top Canadian paddlers plus crews from Washington, New York, Hawaii, and New Zealand.

We welcome all paddlers to participate in the races which will challenge competitive kayaks, surfskis, plus single, two-person, and six-person outrigger canoes.

8th Annual Howe Sound Outrigger Race

The 8th Annual ‘Howe Sound Outrigger Race’ will be held in Gibsons BC on the
weekend of July 8th and 9th , 2006. This major event has become the largest
paddling event of it’s kind in Canada and has gained international
recognition as one of the top ten races of its kind in the world. The event
includes sprint races for paddlers new to sport and a 15km and 30 km course
for the hard-core paddlers.

This year more than 35 of the awesome 45-foot ‘long boats’ (OC-6) and about
60 solo and tandem outriggers (OC-1/OC-2) are expected to grace Gibsons
Harbour and the waters of Howe Sound for ‘big-water’ racing.

The HSOR attracts paddlers from Hawaii, western mainland United States, Hong
Kong, Australia and Canada. This year some of the world’s top paddlers and
builders of outrigger canoes are expected to attend again from Hawaii. They
will be racing, leading coaching clinics and development forums and
networking to attract and inspire young paddlers.

The Town of Gibsons becomes the heartbeat of the outrigger world for the

Part of the CORA Cup, the 2006 Lotus Iron Race will take place on Saturday, July 1 (Canada Day). This popular OC6 iron race takes paddlers up scenic Indian Arm. There are a few mandatory portions of the race course, but it is up to individual teams to decide on the best routes to take advantage of tides, currents, water depth, and winds. Race length for the Open and Mixed Divisions is approximately 20 kilometers, Novice Division is approximately 11 kilometers, and the Junior Division course depends on the number and experience of teams as well as the water conditions on race day.

The Lotus Small Boats Race will take place on Sunday, July 2.

OC-6 Races | Saturday, July 1 Schedule:
Novice & Junior OC-6 – 10:00 a.m.
Women's Open OC-6 - noon
Men's Open and Mixed OC-6 – 2:00 p.m.

Registration: $20 CAD per paddler ($120 per team CAD). All paddlers must be paid 2006 CORA members. Registration table will be open 1 hr prior to race start

Divisions:
1) Junior (minimum of 3 females per team)
2) Novice (less than 2 years of outrigger paddling experience, minimum of 3 women per team)
3) Age Class (a minimum of three teams must be registered to make a class)
Age Class Categories: women / men / mixed (at least 3 women per team)
Age Classes: Open (all ages) / Masters (35+) /Senior Masters (45+) / Golden Masters (55+)

Small Boat Races| Sunday, July 2
Open Division is approximately 11 km. Junior/Novice Division is approximately 5 km.

Schedule:
Novice/Junior – 8:00 am start
Women - 9:30 am start
Men / Mixed – 11:30 am start

Registration: $10.00 CAD per paddler. Register morning of race. Arrive early, times are approximate

Classes:
OC-1, OC-2, K-1, Surf-ski. We will recognize all classes with a minimum of 3 entries in that class. All paddlers are to supply their own boats. Lifejackets and boat leashes mandatory.

The Lotus Sports Club was first formed in l986 to compete as a team in the first Vancouver International Dragon Boat Races at Expo '86. Since that time, the club has won the Canadian Men's Dragon Boat Championship three times. In l988, Lotus formed a women's dragon boat team which competed in numerous races in Vancouver, Portland and New York. Lotus has had a mixed dragon boat team since 1987. In 1996, the Lotus Mixed Team placed first at the Vancouver International Festival and went to Toronto to compete in the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival. In the past ten years, Lotus has continued to compete in both local and international dragon boat races. At the 2005 Alcan Dragon Boat Festival, Lotus fielded four dragon boat teams!

In 1989, the Lotus Sports Club organized the first outrigger race in Canada, the Lotus Ironman. Since then, the list of outrigger races has become extensive and Lotus has made a name for itself as both a competitive and participatory club. The Lotus Senior Masters Women's team won the 2004 CORA Canadian Outrigger championship in their division. This past year, the Lotus Mixed team won the CORA Canadian Iron Championships as well as the CORA Cup in the Open Mixed division.

It was decided in the spring of l989 to start a junior development program. Since then, the program has grown to include six high schools in the Tri-Cities area and over 1000 students have been on the team. This team has done very well in both local and international meets and has many championships to its credit. The Lotus junior teams are the 2005 CORA Canadian Outrigger Junior Division champions.
