Aloha Hui Waa paddlers

This is for any boat holders that were in the water on Saturday. SO did any one get the bites like last year and how is the beach situation. I was told that the 40 day rain took out most of the shore line and there are a lot of rocks that could damage canoes.

Mahalo for your input.

Power/Tech Ratio

Paddling traditions/rituals - would appreciate your input for an article

I am writing an article on paddling rituals and traditions for a national magazine and I hope you can help. I would be grateful to anyone who could share some examples that he/she has encountered on local trips, in races, or on expeditions. My deadline is this week.

The rituals/traditions can take place on any body of water, and involve any kind of paddled craft (kayaks, canoes, whitewater rafts, dragon boats, and of course, the OC).

Nothing is too quirky or too obvious. But I would prefer to see somewhat more established traditions/rituals rather than personal ones. Please be specific and keep in mind that I have to be able to verify these. Also, if you would like to be quoted, please spell your full name.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Anybody paddle the Starbucks Kai'wi Channel (OC-1 Molokai) Relay? If you did, I'm just wondering how you trained for it and, given your experience, your recommenation on how to train for it.

A paddler's choice

Do or should paddlers be given a choice to paddle where they would like to? It seems to me with every regatta season,. there's always shifting of paddlers from one club to another. Is this wrong?

If a paddler( paddlers ) is going to be welcomed by a club, shouldn't that paddler(s) be given that choice to go. Why is it that people seem to get mad at the people who choose to go to another club or nor allow to go?. If the individual is not happy at their club or wants to experiment, but wants to continue to participate in canoe racing then shouldn't that decision be made by the individual and the club he/she is going to? Or are we obligated to stay with the club that you first signed up with? Last time I checked...... I was paying memebership to paddle. No one was paying me to paddle.
