waterproof case for ipod

just a bit of info for anyone interested. i recently bought a waterproof case and headset for my ipod, used it a few times, worked out real nice. That is until the day i had huli and the locking clip came off and my nano drowned. A good rubberband would probaby have been enough to keep it secure. Just thought i'd share this..........aloha

Noosa race shots

Clubmate just sent me this link so thought I would post it. I got to tell you, it makes an expat like me wonder what I am doing living in Europe. Must be the warm beer ; o)

Sharks

I was watching a show on shark attacks last week. Most of the attacks were on surfers or divers. Has anyone ever heard of an attack on a paddler?

Pule

Since Keizo mentioned starting a new post about this topic, I will. What do people think about doing a pule before a race?

One Man Cover

Did anyone find a yellow one cover on Molokai after Maui to Molokai? I left it in a red bag with some straps in the bag. If anyone has seen it or known anyone who might have grabbed it , please call Chris @ 388-2448.

Mahalo

Your Aloha is alive and well!!

I've read a few comments in your forum regarding a lack of the "Aloha" spirit within the paddling community in Hawaii. Having just come back from doing a couple of races on Maui, I can tell you that from what myself and Rambo saw during our time there, it's alive and well!
We came over to do the Keanae-Kahului run (Maui) and the Maui-Molo one-man races, and I can tell you we were in awe of Maui Canoe and Kayak Club paddlers and the way they handled themselves in getting ready for the Keanae run on race day.
That you were able to get so many paddlers organized for that race, and make it look so easy is a credit to you! The level of co-operation between you all really was something to see.
I'd like to say a big "Mahalo!" to Don Mehling in taking the time to make sure we were looked after, that the canoes he'd organised for us to use were ready and to make sure we had transportation to the start point.
Thank you also to Wendall and Marcella at Tri Paddle Maui for their help in getting us kitted up and making sure we were set to go. (Wendall I forgot to pay you for the hat you brought me for Maui-Molo race, send me an email with you're details, and I'll take care of it. Sorry.)
Thank you also to Bob Getzen, who we visited at Hana between races. He took us both out on his spare canoes and gave us a tour of his local paddling area which I have to say is visually stunning.
For our Maui-Molo race, thank you also to Chris Maynard , Mike Giblin , Kekoa , Doug and JP for getting us organised with canoes for that race. Again, thank you also to Don Mehling for getting our return trip organised from Molo. (Don , send me an email with you're postal address so we can send a token of appreciation)
On Oahu, thank you to Aka Hemings (I hope that's how to spell your first name! Sorry if it's wrong!), who took us out surfing on a 4 man for just over an hour after spotting us snooping around the beach! Aka the photos turned out really well, send me an email with you're postal address!
Thank you also to Karel and Marcella at Outrigger Connection for letting us use the Fuze for a little training. We turned up on the door step with only our paddles and a moped each and no way of getting the canoe to the beach! So thank you too to Island Paddler at Kailua in hooking us up with the boys at Two Good Kayaks, who got us going for a very modest fee!
To anyone thinking of heading over to Hawaii to experience some great racing, I think I can speak for Rambo as well in saying go for it!
These were two fantastic, well organised down wind races! And being a week apart meant logistics were a little easier and we had time to see a little of Hawaii.
Getting back to the topic of Aloha, we found it extended everywhere we went. From the paddlers to shop keepers to waitresses to drivers on the road!
We had nothing but great help, great service and great manners on the road, even if it was our fault!

Who do you think will win the Oc-1 Molo relay?

Just wanted to start some gossip and see who people choose for the winners of this weekends race?

Where's the ALOHA

Aloha Paddling world! I just received information from a friend on mine of some disturbing events that took place on the Big Island, one man racks at Honokohau Harbor, involving several one man and two man canoes ( 4 of them ) cables being cut by someone or some people. The sad thing of this is it was done particulary to the onwer of these canoes. It wasn't a random thing. It was delibertly done!! The onwer of these canoes is Ian Foo and his wife Lauren Foo. For what reason..I don't really know, but I do know that this type of acts should not be tolerated in this sport. Why go endanger someones life??

From what I got, Ian and Lauren has been VERY generous in allowing people to use these canoes, at any time of the day, when either their canoes are being fixed, sent to other Islands for racing, or waiting for their new canoe to come in with no strings attach!! They have also allowed people to demo these boats if they were thinking about buying one. Where else in Hawai'i will you have someone like this who would do this?? Not much.

I do know that Ian Foo has made a NAME for himself in this paddling world (wether it's good or bad) but I do know that his contibution has been a plus one way or another for everyone here in the paddling community near or far.

It's very unforunate that there are people in this paddling world who would do such a thing like that. I know that there are bad blood between padddlers and clubs, but to go cut someones cables is a pure act of chicken $@&*. If you have a problem with someone.... tell it to their face. Don't go destroying peoples property. If not, seek help and keep your unwanted energy away from our paddling world. Hopefully Randy Boti and his people can help keep the paddling shed a save place for all canoes there.

OC1 Fishing

Anybody here ever use their OC1 to tow a fishing lure during training? If so, any tips or advice about how you go about it? Do you use a rod or strong handline? How do you get fish back to shore, especially if they are large pelagic species?
