The course for Kanaka Ikaika race #4 Sunday Feb. 21st. will start at Hawaii Kai as posted on the Calendar. It is scheduled to end at Sand Island, however, Coast Guard is threatening to NOT allow us to cross Honolulu Harbor. If the Coast Guard shuts down the passage through the shipping lane, we will have to divert the finish to Magic Island.
We had planned to shift this weeks race from Kailua Beach to Kualoa Beach Park. However, due to some issues with the DLNR, we are not able to get the water permit and therefore have to keep with the scheduled course.
Sorry we can't give everyone the Kualoa race experience with lunch from Haleiwa Joe's. The positive is that Haleiwa Joe's will step up and cater food for the Oahu Championship on March 13th. And although we wanted to break up the last few races with another windward race for variety in course, at least everyone does love the downwind courses on Oahu's south shore. The other positive is that BUD LIGHT will be at the end!
You can download your registration form at www.kanakaikaika.com to help streamline the process.
See you Sunday at Hawaii Kai for registration starting at 7:00 a.m. Race start as usual at 10:00 a.m.
The 11th annual pre-season Kala'iomalulani Canoe Race will be another pre-season teaser. The 2009 race was a success and we're predicting the same in 2010. The Long Course will start in Kailua and finish at He'eia Kea Pier. The Short Course will start at He'eia Kea Pier, will continue toward Kualoa and back into Kahalu'u Pier (weather permitting for both courses). The short course will be for the womens, juniors and mixed crews. Don't forget the "'Ono" food Keahiakahoe is know for. We would like to extend an open invitation to all canoe clubs who may be interested in taking part in this highly competitive race.
We will invite all clubs to bring down the juniors in their clubs to join in the Keiki Race to be held at the Keahiakahoe Canoe Club race site. Registration is a small $30 per crew and also includes awards and lunch.
*This is a pre-season OHCRA sanctioned race
** Parking - The Harbor Master a He'eia Kea Pier will not be permitting any parking of vehicles in trailer stalls that do not have a trailer attached to them. HPD will be on site to ticket violators! Parking in Kahalu'u will be up Waihe'e Road. There will be Trailer Parking ONLY at the Kahalu'u Halau Site. Signs will be posted.
