Event Description:

The 2015 Hawaiian Airlines Liberty Challenge is scheduled for Saturday, June 20 at Hudson River Park's Pier 26 in Manhattan.

Crews will compete in the challenging waters of one of the world’s busiest harbors, paddling past iconic landmarks including the World Trade Center, Brooklyn Bridge and Statue of Liberty. The day-long public festival at Pier 26 will offer Polynesian entertainment, food and activities for the entire family.

looks like the Indian birch bark canoe design
slightly flat bottom with one inch keel [inside is totally flat]
weighs 93 pounds
will carry two people and at least an additional 500 pounds
needs the wooden OUTER gunwales repaired and needs to be painted
it has been water-sanded
there were no outriggers or sail when I bought it [you can buy sails ,
and make the outriggers out of PVC.

Need some feedback from experienced OC1 paddlers

Interested in getting in to OC1s, I currently paddle SUPs and kayaks. Need some feedback from experienced OC1 paddlers.

The kayak I have (Hurricane Skimmer) is efficient and fast for an all around sit on top. The decent quality seat and backrest make a huge difference on my back in longer runs. I also tend use the back of the seat for leverage when paddling. I have no back issues paddling a SUP (displacement/race hull) for hours.
