Nov 27 - 4th Annual Turkey Day Paddle (Maui 2003)

Fun was had by all at the fourth annual Maui Turkey Day Paddle. With cloudless skies above and light winds blowing from the south, it was a beautiful day for a good workout lasting about four miles from Kamaole 1 to Sugar Beach. This race was started four years ago by a bunch of people wanting to get a good work out before they ate turkey and watched football all day. To encourage participation the winner of the race is not the fastest boat, rather the boat that comes closest to its guesstimated time. This format allows people at all levels of expertise to compete and makes all types sea-worthy vessels eligible to race. With the number of entries growing each year, we decided to add a food drive, asking for canned food as the entry fee. Raising about 150 pounds of food and getting a pretty good work out at the same time made this year's race very successful. We hope to make this a bigger event next year with a greater yield of food for the Food Bank. Have a safe and happy holiday season.
