What would you ask kisa111 to do for penance ?

I would say pick up cigarette butts.

New Year's Surf video

Here's a video I made in front of Keawakapu Beach in Maui. I was paddling back and forth on the same section of water while my wife and son hung out on the beach. At one point my 12 year old looks out at me flying the ama and says to my wife, "They grow up so quick, don't they?"

It seems a little long because I held some of the shots longer, knowing that paddling geeks like myself enjoy that part. I used a cheap Olympus water-proof camera mounted on a suction cup camera mount, stuck all over a borrowed Scorpius.

ocean paddler tv

Aloha gang, I wanted to let you know the new episode of ocean paddler has started. If you missed it. It airs tonight at 7:00pm 1:00am and Thursday at 2:30pm. Out of state people can watch it live at WWW.oc16.tv . This month we talked to Luke about his accident and safety, the v1 race around the hat and the Hawaiian sailing canoe race in kauai. Happy new year to all and Mahalo for all your support.

paddleleaks

Paddlers should be able to make a living from paddling. Karel, Jim and John Foti, Luke, Keizo, Kelly, and Johnny, Maui, Kai, Ron Cotteen, Ropati, Danny Ching... these are the guys we should be giving our business to, right? These guys are paddlers who make the things that make our sport better.
But paddleleaks has learned of an interesting connection in this little world of ours. And I'd like to share with you:

Paddling tragety in Guam

I wanted to share this with the rest of the paddling community around the world. This terrible accident happened in Guam, my hometown. The comments of non-paddlers broke down the survirvors. My main goal is that this accident servers as a reminder that if you disrespect the ocean, the payback can be your life. Let us ALL learn from this tragety.

RIP my fellow islanders KM and RC.

How far forward

Continued from another thread:

How far forward will the paddler's position on the OC 1 be moved ?

Over the years, the position has been moved forward inch by inch. This trend does not seem to stop.

Are a movable seat and foot pedals the optimal answer ? After all the hull under you remains the same.

May it be better to change stern and bow volumes to make the boat drop in better ?
Or, add weight to the bow in downwind races ?

It is obvious that you moved forward too much once you pearl; this could be offset by bow shape with more flare and more vertical bow volume.

Repairing OC-6 Iakos

Hello,

I know there is a thread on repairing a paddle, but what type of varnish/sealant is best for repairing and sealing OC-6 iakos.

Kokua appreciated.

New Race

Found this on facebook yesterday. Since there is an ongoing discussion about unlimited boats I thought I'd share.

HVA has nothing to do with organizing this race but we like it none the less.

Stolen Paddles

Passing this on from the officers of Na Ohana O Na Hui Wa'a. 17 wood paddles were stolen from Lokahi Canoe Club's practice site this past weekend. The paddles were used by Roosevelt High School's paddling team and have RHS stamped on them. Please contact HPD if someone tries to sell one of these to you. Mahalo.
