Aloha Paddling Community - My name is John Benson - most of you know me as "LJ" with Escort Boats Hawaii. I was asked by the Hawaii Ocean Safety Team (HOST) to Chair the Ocean Sporting Events Sub-Committee to gather All in the Paddling community to Share your Mana'o (Thoughts/knowledge) and put together some kind of a Standard Operating Procedure for our Ocean Sporting Events. This is an attempt by the US Coast Guard to allow us to Police ourselves on the Water without the Government making new Rules for us.

We are missing two Pueo OC-1s. Both were last seen at the Kamanu Composites shop in Kailua.

1) Midnight blue deck w/ a hint of clear and a dark grey hull. This canoe came out of the mold severely blemished three years ago and has collecting dust in our shop for years. The epoxy batch for the 'iako sleeves didn't cure perfectly so the integrity of the sleeves is likely compromised. This canoe should not be used in anything but flat water and possibly represents a danger to whoever is on it.

Tis the season for giving right?

I'd suggest donating your old semi buss up paddles to a local high school. We all know how expensive new paddles are and we all know how strapped for cash high school athletic departments are, as well as local families.

Hey everyone. I was curious to find out what paddlers are doing around the world to strengthen their stroke and pull in the water.

I've notice during my oc1 runs my top arm is not getting the initial full blade plant in the water before I start my pull. (Fatigue?)

I would like to correct this before it becomes a bad habit.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Rumor on the streets in Tahiti is that EDT is Hawaii right now training with Livestrong...because Livestrong paid their way to come train.

Also that EDT (2012 Hawaiki Nui Champs), Shell and several other crews from Tahiti will be at Olamaui 2013. So it looks like everyone that was worried about Livestrong having an unfair advantage due to the course being all on Hawaii Island have a few bigger things to worry about... several top crews from Tahiti.
