How far have you paddled?

I was checkin out http://www.ocpaddler.com/files/Outrigger-flyer.png and got to thinking about the expanding world of OC. At some point some grom (what do you call a young paddler, anyways) is gonna travel the world much like surfers do, just to paddle and/or compete all over the world. Im curious to know what is actually out there as an opportunity to paddle/travel now.

A short video clip from the Maritimes

A short video clip of paddling in our cold waters of the North Atlantic.

My first attempt at a video.

What would you pay for a used SCORPIUS??

Kanaka Ikaika (Kanaka I Kai Ka?) Which name is correct?

What is up with the Kanaka Ikaika association name? Online it is listed as Kanaka Ikaika but on most stickers and t-shirts their name is listed as "Kanaka I Kai Ka." If "Kanaka I Kai Ka" is what they are going with, then what is it suppose to mean?

Question for Rambo

Rambo man....

What's your take on the Oregon Scientific ATC2K waterproof video camera. It looks cool...helmet cam style...want to mount it on my one man. Have researched this camera yet??

A Molokaii virgin no more

Aloha and Mahalo to every one i met in Hawaii.
I just returned home after competing in the Epic race and had a ball.
Thanks to the Bartletts for loaning me such a beautiful canoe as the black Scorpius, as well as being the "Brad and Angelina" of the OC world they were very kind , helpful and positive to an ozzie first timer, unfortunately we had no bumps and I was too light to make it go in the flat , but they are the business those canoes.
It was great to witness the joy emanating from a very cramped "Painter" at the awards ceremony , well done mate. good to meet you.
The ony pisser was being declared as a d,n,f in the results when Im pretty sure I did and I found the Epic organisers to be very corporate and uptight.
I now see why Pa'a will flourish and look forward to competing in their race next year.
Thanks for all your restaurant tips in an earlier post, someone suggested Femme Nu which I did check out, I didnt think much of the food but the waitresses were super friendly.
Thanks again girls
Enjoy the ocean and I hope to see you next year.
PS only joking about Brad and Angelina as Lauren is much better looking

winning strategies

I dont recall where I read it, but someone, from another sport....I think it was basketball...... was talking about how important it is for their opponent to make mistakes and that they try to force them to do so. i.e., turnovers, fouls, missed shots, etc. They were talking about how this is just as important as they, themselves, not making mistakes. My question to the elite paddlers is: Does this strategy play a part in paddling? Do you try to force your opponents to make mistakes or is winning based entirely on being the fittest, most skilled?

Need Advice...two paddling questions...

1) To facilitate rotation, Alan C mentions coating the foam seat or wearing cloths that have "less static friction" so you can have the comfort of foam but some slickness like a K1 seat. Any suggestions? (Glide, butt butter, vasoline, KY, Astroglide? paddling shorts?) really, is it important? I notice rotation in K1 but not in OC vids. In the videos of OC you see JR doing all the things they say "dont do" in the paddle clinic vids, lunging forward, push with top hand, dropping top hand to the knee etc.

2) Any problem attaching the leg rope to the iako? It seems not to tangle. On the outriggerconnection boats the iakos attach with thumb screws so it is not totally locked in but I'm not surfing in any sizable waves.

Thanks

What's up with the post count?

People's post count isn't changing when they post. Jim is appropriately stuck at 666!
