We are beautiful !

Last sunday we did an 8 mile run from Leo Carillo to Dume (by the way it is pronounced like "doom"). That's a pretty reliable down hill run along the Malibu shore. Sun was out and the bumps were medium. We had the usual suspects from Marina and Oceanohana had brought some friends along. All together 8 guys and Nohealani as the only femme.
Perfect conditions for first timers and veterans alike. At the end of the run all of us made it through mild surf very gracefully and in one fluid and effortless motion picked up our boats and started walking to a patch of grass by the parking lot in order to avoid sand on the boats. The folks on the sand had no idea where we came from and as we made our way, all of a sudden a very excited and gorgeous woman got up and asked where we were coming from. It felt like I should have answered: "Actually from another planet, please take me to your leaders"
But then I explained that we had paddled down the coast. She stood there somewhat surprised, stunned and incredulous and said to us simply:
"YOU LOOK BEAUTIFUL"

Now that's paddling in BU !

Epoxy 4 shaft

Anybody know where to get and what is a good epoxy for paddle shaft? I'm trying to redue my paddle shaft and someone told me that I need to sand off the old stuff with 320 sandpaper to bare wood and paint it with an epoxy enamel or paint brush then a coat of poly enamel.

Keizo and the Kamanu Composite Boys

Was thinking about a new business venture for you guys....

Hows about going down to Tahiti to secure building rights for one of the tahitian six man boats, getting the mold out here to Hawaii, and offering up Tahitian boats for the locals. It is time for the sport to move on. With the availability of these boats here in Hawaii, I believe that the 'Open Class' racing will explode, and more and more paddlers will get into these sleek machines. I'm not saying paddling should move away from the traditional stuff, but fiberglass boats are already the predominant choice of paddling crews, so why not bring the weight down and get more paddlers in the open class racing. Kona started it, and before long, all the long distance races will have a bigger and better open class. Last year Kona had Live Strong and Lanikai. Who know who else would jump in if boats were easier to get. I know I would....round up some guys and try these boats out. Had fun in NZ at the World Sprints in those boats, I bet the tahitian boats will be just as good.

Personally, I would love to paddle a boat that Shell Wa'a paddles in in Tahiti....its a cool looking machine. Bring that mold up.

Just something to think about......

Leg Drive-what is it, really?

I always hear people talking about leg drive here. I read something about it as it pertains to kayaks and it seemed like it was more visualization than anything else. In many years of paddling on O'ahu, practicing and racing w/ many top paddlers, I don't recall it being mentioned more than once or twice. How do you use leg drive in the oc1, without putting too much pressure on the peddles? What's the best way to use leg drive in the six?

Where to paddle around Aiea & Pearl City?

Hi all,

Does anyone know where one can go to paddle one-mans around Aiea & Pearl City? I see the Pearl Harbor club that practice in the harbor but don't know what the policy is about paddling in the harbor by Aiea Bay. Or even at blaisdell park at the intersection of Kamehameha and Kaahumanu? Don't want to get shot by the MP, hehehe.

Thanks in advance.
