Hamilton Island Cup 2008 - Full Results UPDATE

This year is the 25th Anniversary of the worlds richest outrigger race, The Poweraid Coca Cola Hamilton Island Cup (was $100,000 but reduced to $60,000 these past few years). Hawaiians have confirmed 2 crews, a Senior Master men ( with Walter Guild, Kamoa Kalama and Steve Cole) and a Golden Master men (Nappy's crew - Anuenue).

Other Internationals are, Tahiti women (Hine Va'a Tahiti), New Guinea (Konedobu Kanu Klab), Hong Kong, Team Grizzlies ( New Zealand - 4 crews), South China Sea and Singapore. Disappointing no Open or Master Hawaiian men this year but i guess the $ has something to do with it.

drink

when racing how many liters of water are you supposed to drink per hour?
I just bought a water pack and its 2 liters.

Its All Rambo's Fault

If a tree falls in the forest but no one is there to hear it, does it make any sound? Or if you do a smokin downwind run but don't video it, did you really paddle. Seems everyone is paddling with a video cam now. And wanting to fit in and be like everybody, I just broke down and got a GoPro. Now I'm just like Rambo. Or at least I will be when I figure out how to use it.

Weight classes for races ?

Weigth is very important in boat performance.

Increasing the weight from 200 lbs to 220 lbs increases your 'wetted surface' area by 15 - 20 %, and your resistance is that much higher, thus the power you need to generate is that much more also.

Would it then not make more sense to have people paddle in different weight classes as compared to paddle in different age groups ?

Lanikai Seems like the Place to be

Oh my god....Kai Bartlet, Mike Judd, Carlton 'Bamski' Helm in the open 4. The Bruhn boys back in....Jr. and the Dolans, Jack Rooney. Shoot, next thing you know Thiebert, Penny, and whomever else of the paddling Gods will be in next weeks Lanikai line up. Talk about loaded.....

I'm heading for the windward side....I wonder if can sign up too.

Do you think Shell Wa'a and OPT have big targets on their backs?? This is going to be a fun season. I wish October was here already.

Rambo's Customized GoPro's

I've been a busy boy these last couple of weeks modifying and customizing a batch of GoPro Cameras incorporation wireless remote control and 2 types of delay timers in preparation for filming the Hamilton Island Cup. As i will also be paddling in all the events, i need to be able to have most of the Canoe Mounted Cams turn on and record at different parts of the course automatically, except the radio control type which will be controlled from the support boat.

This is what i have so far.
