Staph Infections

We have become aware that many paddlers and surfers are getting cut and infected with staph. Some of these are MRSA and resistant to most antibiotics.

If this has happened to you, please let me hear from you. The department of health does not and will not keep score until such a time we can prove there is a problem.

Lets get on this and clean up our ocean before we all get sick.

Mahalo.

Miles of Coastline, Yet No OC Club in New Jersey

If you would like to help start an OC club in NJ and promote the sport of outrigger canoeing on the east coast drop me a line: jectfirkin@hotmail.com. Has anyone tried to start a club in NJ? What are the major obstacles (besides owning an OC6 and having a place to keep it :) I'm starting from scratch, advice is needed and welcome.

I love this picture!!!

Still would like to know where they would put the rest of the stuff in that Smart car?!

OC1 Paddling in the Dark - SF Bay

SF Bay Area Paddlers,

Can you shed some light on paddling opportunities in the winter? Specifically, does anyone take their OC1 out in the darkness on the SF Bay? Or other bodies of water? Input on the best place to get OC1 training in the early morning or evenings (before and after normal work hours) once the days get short? I don't want to only train OC1 on the weekends... but am trying to think about my fall and winter training plan if I relocate. Your input on locations, safety, etc. would be most welcome...

Force 5 vs. Mirage

There is no perfect OC-6, I'm sure.

What are the differences in performance between the Force 5 and the Mirage.

Any other favorites?

Nawiliwili Security Zone

The other thread has become too cluttered. Lets express our thoughts, analyses, while trying to keep things civil.

What's worse?

Paddling drunk or posting drunk? And I don't posting up air-balls from the three-point line folks...

I once responded to a whole bunch of ads from the Casual Encounters section of Craigslist-Seattle after having 6 or 7 or 11 dozen beers. All I wanted was some hot NSA action from an anonymous stranger - but what I ended up with was an inbox so full of SPAM (and I'm not talking the kind you make musubi with) that I had to abandon that email account forever.

So, I guess the moral of the story is that alcohol in high enough concentrations WILL make you pass out and pee your pants in front of the chick that you've been trying to get with for MONTHS, and ruin your chances with her for the entire foreseeable future.

Learn from my mistakes people - all of them.

What does this have to do with paddling? Well, I'm going to paddle later on today, so there.

Molokai Races/Thoughts/Comments

It appears this year’s Women’s and Men’s Molokai will be very competitive and challenging- I would love to here everyone’s thoughts. The pre-season races are certainly providing the fuel to the drama

Na Wahine O Ke Kai-Women’s Molokai

Team Bradley will be challenged by very, very hungry Team Hui Lanakila and Waikiki Beach Boys. I am sure there are some other women’s teams in Hawaii who want to fly under the radar before Molokai but who are also looking for respect on race day. Also we have to consider an Australian, California, or Canadian All-Star Team showing up. I am not in the know, but others might know if they are coming or not.

I am always thinking about a Tahitian women’s team as well. With all of the great men’s paddlers in Tahiti, I am surprised a women’s team hasn’t won Molokai yet. Maybe they are on the way this year. Imagine the party in Tahiti if they won both the Men’s and Women’s race in the same year.

Molokai Hoe-Men’s Molokai

Again like the women the competition will be crazy.

I don’t know exactly who is showing up (others might fill in the blanks) but I can make some guesses.

I imagine Tahiti crews will look to repeat-Matai Shell and others. I don’t need to go into how strong those crews are.

Team Tiger-Australia- Since they won Hamilton they probably gained a lot of confidence but know how hard they will have to work to win Molokai. It appears they have the horses, but can they put it together.

Lanakila California-They have improved every-year and will push hard again

Hawaii-Crews

There are many Hawaii crews who will battle this year-

Lanikai, Team New Zealand-Hawaii, Outrigger, Hawaiian, Tui Tonga, and others. It is hard to pick a favorite and I would love to hear what people are thinking.
