Streaming Video

Anyone heard about the live streaming video coverage of the Henry Ayau?

Just kidding, but wouldn't that be sweet. Or maybe even live updates from the water somehow...

Canoe etiquette

I'm putting together a handbook for novices and I hoping to get some feedback on the various rules of the canoe, and what the origins were (in/out on left side, not sitting on boat, canoe facing out to sea, etc.)... the more the better... some may be cultural and some may be specific to a club, but it'll be interesting to hear what they are...

i think that in the whole competitive aspect, it's good to always be reminded of the cultural roots of the sport.

Nai'a Iki, Kainalu, Papu's Vantage, & Huki V1-X owners - what do you like/dislike about your canoes?

Being that i live in Hawaii i guess i'm mostly interested in what people in Hawaii think of their canoes. I've demoed all these canoes with the exception of the Hilo made Vantage. I like different things about each canoe. Ultimately i want a sturdy, light, stable, fast canoe that handles well in the bump, that would be the perfect canoe, right? Anyway, I'm wondering if there are some of you out there that have these boats or know people with these boats? How do you think they handle. Can they/you keep up with other paddlers? Do the boats tend to pearl in waves more than others?
Just by demoing and looking at the hulls I'm thinking the boats with more of a rocker are better in bump and waves whereas the boats with the straighter hull tend to be faster in flats?
Is a Kainalu really worth waithing for? Is it much faster than a Nai'a Iki?
Anybody with one of these canoes that you'd like to sell? I'm still looking for a used one.
Oh, one final question, what kind of warranty should one expect from the boat makers?
Thanks, Frogdog

How many times a week do you train/paddle?

I am curious, what kind of training commitment most outrigger paddlers make in general. My impression is that most of us have many other obligations (work, family, etc.) that limit us from training at the elite level. Just looking for a general impression as to what how much the outrigger community trains. (Miles/kilometers or times per week)

Paddle distances

Some of you may be aware of this site (www.routebuilder.org). It's a great site that allows you to figure out distances anywhere. You enter waypoints and it gives you miles, kilometers, etc. for whatever route you input. Not quite as detailed as a gps on your kanu, but considering I don't own a gps and the site is free, it's a great alternative!
Just thought I'd share it since I found it so useful.

Molokai Hoe - what makes it special to you ?

What makes the Molokai Hoe special to you ? Is it the only race that you take really serious ? Shouldn't it be longer, maybe start from Maui ?

Switching sides/strokesper min.

How many strokes does one usually take before switching sides? I have been paddling my OC-1 since May and have taken to a 1 minute or 60 stroke pattern on each side. Today I decided to switch to 30 strokes per side on my last lap of my workout and completed one of my 2 mile loops 25 sec. faster than usual. Any suggestions?

Standup Paddle Board

I am thinking of getting into standup paddling, and want some input on boards. I am a decent surfer and would like to use the board mostly for surfing, but occasionally do some type of run on it. Any input would be great. Also I live on Kauai and would like to know where boards are available, or what it would cost to ship them here.

Thanks
