Looking ahead to World Sprints: OC1 training

I'm looking ahead to the 2014 World Sprints in Rio and thinking I'd like to have an OC1 training program for this fall and winter that would help me build power and strength to compliment the OC6 paddling that we'll be doing.

Does anyone know of a ready made program for this type of training or have any tips? Do you think it'd be best for me to consult to personal trainer who could build a program for me specifically or would a generic program do the trick?

VOS Chasedown pics now available

Hi everyone,

Our VOS photographer, Ryan Thompson, has edited/sorted and categorized the many pics he took the weekend of our Chasedown event. If you are interested in a 10 X 13 300dpi edited pic (with or without logo) please email us at vosoutrigger@gmail.com for an order. Costs will be $10 ea. or 2 for $15 or 4 for $20. If there is a different size you would like to order let us know and we’ll see what we can work out. Ryan can edit the pics even further from what you see in the Flikr account and can include the Chasedown logo (or not) in a vertical or horizontal layout.

Shoulder surgery

Hey everyone. I'm facing rotator cuff surgery in the near future. Full thickness tear of supraspinatus and several partial thickness tears. I've been through rest, anti-inflammatories, PT, etc. Then MRI revealed the above. Anybody else been through this? How was recovery and your ultimate result. I understand that the post op/rehab period is long and hard. I've researched this to death. Just want to see if there's any paddlers with any input. Thanks.

Looking for seat for Na Pali Challenge

41 year old experienced female paddler looking for a seat in a crew for the Na Pali Challenge. Have never done this race and would love to paddle on Kauai. I will be on Kauai for states. Have paddled Na Wahine O Ke Kai five times and raced both molo solo and kaiwi channel OC1 relay this year. Solid in any seat but would not want to steer in unfamiliar waters.

Found Scorpius XS on I-5 (on way home from Gorge)

Anyone know who ‘lost’ their Scorpius XS (blue/black) and roof racks on the I-5 back from the Gorge? We salvaged the seat and leash and held a quaint ceremony for her. She’s tucked on the other side of the guard rail so she won’t blow into traffic. I have pics for insurance purposes as the boat is beyond repair. You can email me at vosoutrigger@gmail.com. Sorry for your loss :(

Seat selection for a V6

My teammates & I are having an interesting discussion in terms of what type of paddler is suitable for each seat (1-5).
Seat 6 most likely would be the best steersperson, but 1-5 is up in the air.

Everyone seems to have an opinion.
What's yours?

note: I glanced through the forums, and I could not find a similar discussion (maybe there is, but I could not find it).

Cheers.

Race Around the Hat 2013

The original and best rudderless race is back for 2013. Registration will be up within the next two weeks.

As always we will have the best prizes available at any canoe race on the planet. We are going to have waiver signing, breakfast and number assignments begin at 8 am this year so that racing can get underway earlier.

A couple other exciting new things for this year. There will be new hand made wooden trophies for all individuals who place in their respective divisions. Also a Hawai'i based canoe builder is planning on making an appearance with a brand new rudderless canoe.
