MCKC 2013 Schedule

Anybody notice the Maui Canoe and Kayak schedule is up at http://mauicanoeandkayak.org, and how messed up it is? I hope that if other paddlers agree with me, they'll post a comment here and send MCKC and email at mckc@mauicanoeandkayak.org. If you disagree with me, tell me why. Sorry for the long winded rant.

Mara'amu 2012 Surfski Race - Tahiti Video

Tahiti's premier Surfski Race; the Mara'amu (named after the local trade wind) is a glorious inter-island downwind paddle from Tahaa to Bora Bora. Part of the World OceanPaddler Series, it's a must do for the downwind enthusiast.

MOLOKA'I CAR RENTAL

FYI: Alamo or Dollar will no longer pick up your cars at Hale O Lono and drive it back to the airport for a fee. There was a lot of last minute scrambling at the women's race in order to get them transportation to Lono.

If you are renting a car and require someone to drive the car BACK to the airport the morning of the race, please email :
nazarene@inbox.com. A local family (who works for Alamo) has arranged to have drivers available to transport your vehicle back to the airport to check in. Of course they are going to charge you a fee. But is it less than renting a bus for your paddlers.

Na Wahine O Ke Kai - Hale O Lono Debacle

Congrats to all the ladies in yesterday's race. Awesome job!

Now, onto safety, a couple of questions and observations:

  1. Was wondering if anyone is going to be held accountable on how the exit from Hale O Lono was managed before the start of the race?
  2. Should OHCRA have established a protocol on the exit? (was this even discussed?)

If there was protocol, how was it enforced?

  1. It seems like the last crews to get out of the harbor were rushed and thus put themselves in grave danger. Why wasn't the race delayed further?
