Weather let us down for the first time all season. Even setting the buoys was tricky. Our water official Mary Keilty had to do a rescue of a visitor while setting the finish buoy. Those nasty on-shore winds and head current made for tough slugging. Fortunately, Steinlager helped us nurse our wounds as we “re-hydrated” after the race.

Another perfect day on Maui! Big mahalos to our sponsors, Buff Weaver of Leilani’s Island Steakhouse and Wendall DeVera of Tri-Paddle Maui. They styled us out with some hand-carved trophies and provided some ono grinds. Tom Kern of Hammer Nutrition also generously provided everyone with an opportunity at a great prize.

OK – Where did everyone come from???? With a record number of racers (almost 150 boats and over 170 participants) this was by far our largest race ever.
