just for general interest..mike spalding, dad of lauren, is swimming the 30 + miles of the alenuihaha channel today starting at 4:00 this afternoon from upolu point hawaii.. conditions look good. please think good thoughts for him. we hope he finishes in 16-18 hours.

I am 16 and have been training for Molokai on a ski, but don’t have the money for a escort boat and all the other expenses. Whenever I ask people about grants or sponsorships all they tell me is that I just have to ask people.

Would it be possible to create a union that would require escort drivers to join if they wanted to escort any channel crossing. Possibly make them watch a short video about safety so they're not running paddlers over or smoking another paddlers out with their diesel fumes. I think that the biggest benefit would be to keep them from price gouging which is exactly what they're gonna try and do this year since the price of gas has come down. more then 600 for an escort is a crime this year!

hey. does anyone know if the kanaka ikaika race at kailua is still on for tomorrow? that really large northeast swell is suppossed to drop to 2 to 4 by early tomorrow (thats what the forecast says). and the winds will be southwest or something like that. would they still have the race?

Read March 12th, 2009 "The Molokai Dispatch" issue and front page stated that as of March 31st, 2009 Dollar and Budget RAC won't be available for business due to not renewing there leases. Alamo entered a bid but awaiting final status. There are also one other free lance car rental business on Molokai, "Island Kine RAC" rental that should still be in business.

Just wanted to let all paddlers know the 411 before its too late!
