Race Courses

I`m looking for feed back from racers describing your favorite type of race venue and course type, triangular, downwind, circular , etc....

On the east coast most of the long races go around an island , the big 3 , in my mind would be Mayors Cup in New York City which goes around Manhattan Island. The 35 mile Kent Island relay in Maryland which circumnavigates Kent Island in Chesapeake Bay and The Blackburn Challenge which circumnavigates Cape Ann in Gloucester , Massachusetts.

Toronto Harborfest is also a terrific racing weekend in July , the course there goes around an island in the harbor.

What`s your favorite race and why?

Anyone paddle oc-1 at set time in Mission Bay?

Just looking to see if anyone is paddling during the week and wants company?

Christmas

Mele Kalikimaka to all of you.

Our playgrounds. Our sancuaries.

I'm curious how many paddlers in the forum are Surf Rider members? I don't surf, but I started paddling at the beginning of the year, occasionally do some freediving, and have become increasingly concerned about our oceans and beaches that we all use and enjoy. Paddling here the the Pacific Northwest I've been shocked sometimes at the condition of our waterways, knowing it's by all means not a local issue.

If not Surf Rider, what other environmental organizations/initiatives are paddlers involved in?

Aloha and Happy Holidaze to all!

Hypr Stand-Up paddle boards

I was just wondering if anyone had tried the Hypr SUP boards, or any other SUP boards, for that matter. Any opinions forming out there? It seems like the manufacturers are really proliferating. Any recomendations for rookie SUPers?

Looking for La'a

Aloha, I was wondering if anyone knows a hawaiian guy who lives on kauai, and goes by the name of La'a. He is my hero...Thanks La'a

club vs "all star crew"

Here's another argumentative topic. What is an "all star" crew. Here's my 99 cents.

In the past I have believed that if you have a bunch of guys who are good friends and you form a crew (even though the talent level of that crew deems you an "all star" crew), that you are the same as a club. For what is a club more than a brotherhood of friends coming together to acheive the ultimate goal: winning the Molokai Hoe. I have always backed up crews like Team Hawaii/New Zealand cause I viewed them as a club. My friends and family tried to convince me otherwise but I always backed up teams like that. But I finally came around. What's the difference? Let's dicuss. In a club, you represent more than youself or even your crew. You represent a group of paddlers who put in just as much time as you, and push you to get better who will perhaps never have the thrill of coming in first other than your success. The schedule is more difficult, the crew calling is definitely more difficult, and the whole dymanics of a club presents more problems than that of an "all star" team. So why paddle for a club? It's harder, more expensive, and causes more problems with you family due to training schedules. I ask myself that same question and the most definitive answer I can give is what my brother John said at an annual club function. "I BLEED GREEN" (Lanikai). That was my definition (perhaps unknown to him) of what a club is. Here you have one of the greatest paddlers of all time who could paddle for any ALL STAR CREW, declaring his love for his club. Not to put down "all star" crews but I have seen the light (thanks Dave) so take your all star crew, I'll hang with the brotherhood and spend choke money, take time away from my family, get in trouble at work, fly down the Pali going 75mph just to get to practice in the dark with 5 novice b's telling me how to paddle, and I'll be just fine (I think?)

Correct me if i'm wrong

MIRAGE vs. TAHITIAN Canoe ; Which one is Faster in the Flat and surf well on Big Bumps?

Hey! Guys,

Which one do you think is a better OC 6 Boat? The Tahitian made boat that was use by TEAM LIVESTRONG at the MAUI to MOLOKAI race or the Foam core MIRAGE? IF they race next Year in MOLOKAI HO'E would they be in a different division? Look like in this sport, somebody is always raising up the bar to another level. New Canoe OC 1 or OC 6, training strategies, equipment, accessories, to get an Edge. Which sometimes it comes down to MONEY. We need big Sponsorship & Donation, or Big Price money which i believed would bring this sports to a higher Level. Every year more people Racing, 111 Boats in Molokai Ho'e can you imagine next year. Housing accomodation getting short in MOLOKAI. This Sport is Exploding in different angles, don't you think.

practice schedule

Would anyone have a practice schedule they would be generous enough to share. I have downloaded a couple and am interested in other ideas for practice and or training regiments.I also hold youth practices.
thanks guy’s

Merry Christmas
