one man solo

The rumor has been out there that the one man racers will be seperating from the traditional solo ski, one man race. It is rumored that one man paddlers were not happy with the way the race was done last year. The race had more prize money for both divisions and a better pre race and post race party than any race I can remember. What would people say if the sponsor would have come over here and said they would only support surf skis? The main sponsor was after all a surf ski manufacturer. Where were all the one man makers and their money?

All chines all the time.

Keizo,
I've noticed that there are some postings that don't relate to chines. Could you please delete them and prevent those people from posting again.
All chines, all the time.

2 chines vs 4 chines vs 6 chines

Which do you guys think is better? 2 chines, 4 chines or 6 chines? Just curious. I figure the more the better.

RotatorCam

Just when you thought Rambo had done it all ... here's the latest Cam Tool, .. yes it's RotatorCam

Now i can rotate any of my Cams 360 degrees with remote control and capture different angles from the same position, all while still paddling. Almost finished the GPSCam too, which will feature the Garmin GPS screen as a picture in picture somewhere on the main video footage.

Watch this small video of the RotatorCam in action, movement will be controlled by a small foot lever between the Peggie peddles, just slide either foot sideways without leaving the peddles. Cool

Chine Phobia

Since goto had such an adverse reaction to the chine topic , I figured I`d open a new one just for him.

Is there a doctor in the house.....?????

In case the framework for this weblog allows categories, I think it would be nice if we had subsections like

Chine vs Chineless

Letstry to keep this one on topic and try to get to the bottom of of the advantage ( if any )of chines on OC1 s and OC2s. In the other thread the chine issue wasnt thoroughly explored. Maybe there`s no data to turn to on the subject as it pertains to outrigger canoes , who knows. I think though that outrigger canoes are not simply displacement hulls .

At some particular speed they begin to lift and displace water differently than they do at lower speeds. Some paddler said that since sprint kayaks dont have chines then maybe outriggers dont require them either for maximum speed. Theres` a big difference between sprint kayaking and downwind surfing on a canoe. I could be wrong but , I think a canoe going downhill on a wave , downwind can make better speed than a sprint kayaker .

Any experts out there?

I'm Back.......

I've been away for far too long!

After my son was killed in Nov '06 I kind of fell off the face of the earth. But life is good again now (with the notable exception of his absence) and raring to go.

quick questions for new to paddling...please!

I want to get into paddling. I live in Palos Verdes, CA and would like to enjoy the ocean. I have a long term goal of paddling to catalina (25miles) I paddled a kayak in Hawaii on vacation and really enjoyed it. I am 6ft and 260lbs have played football and my knees are ready for a different sport. At my weight I do not expect to be a competitor, but I am very active and fit just heavy muscle. Please help!

1) I was suggested an epic V10 sport. I tried a surf ski once and really had a tough time balancing it. I like the motion of using one paddle (like in a canoe) better than the two sided paddle. Is a one man outrigger like a surf ski with a balancer (sorry for my terminology)?

2) If an outrigger and a surf ski took off in a race is the surf ski much faster? Obviously the outrigger would add weight and drag but it looks like it would be similar.

3) Is it common for people to like the one sided paddle better than the two sided or am I just not understanding the technique? I really feel like the double paddle is a lot of oblique twisting/core and I get a stronger pull on a single sided paddle.

Sincere thanks
