Seat for Kai Wa'a Spica

Nead a seat for a Spica OC-1. Kai no longer makes the boat and does not have a template for a seat. Please let me know if you know how to make a seat or how I can get one.

Looking to demo OC-1

I'm looking for some help in finding places to demo different OC-1 so I can figure out what canoe works best for me. I haven't paddled OC-1 before but paddled OC-6 when I was in Maui and am now making the transition to paddling the OC-1. I've learned (especially through reading other threads) that the best way to determine what works best is to paddle as many different canoes as possible, rather than ask everyone, "what's the best OC-1 out there". I live up in San Francisco now but also spend lots of time down in the Newport area. I've been looking predominatly at the Hurricane and Fuze, but I don't want to limit myself to just demoing those. Any help with contact info for Clubs, sales reps, or a kind fellow paddler in the area that wouldn't mind someone going for a test run (or previous threads that have already discussed this issue) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

OC3 sail

Im building an OC3 in my dads garage and its comming allonge fine. With a bit of luck it will be in the water at the end of the summer. Im still looking for a sail or a place where you can buy or order them from.
If anyone knows of such a place please send me a email.
or if anyone has some good ideas about setting up my mast so it can rake forward or backwards that would be great to. I think it works on a balljoint like an a catamaran but im not sure.
I live in Holland where there are no sailing outriggers so im building my outrigger from photos.

Vertical Storage system for OC1- outside!

Hey All,

I live in "space challenged" circumstances, and want to find a way to suspend my OC1 vertically, outside, when not in the water. It needs to be a system that allows removal and placing the OC1 up easily, several times per week.

Anyone have a solution for this?

I have concerns that the boat is not constructed expecting nose or tail weight,so I will need to keep this in mind.

Much appreciated.

DUKE canoe sail

Hey, I'm throwing this out there by chance that someone might have this laying around and want to part with it. I'm looking for the mast and sail rigging for the DUKE 4-man kanu that was made here on the east coast. Contact me if you have one/or know of one that might be available....

What makes and OC1 go - design query

Since I am newer to OC I have potentially a goober question:

What makes the difference in an OC-1 design and how it moves?
From what I've read a longer boat is better for flat water
Shorter boat for chop
More or less rocker also adds to the equation...

So why then doesn't every flat water paddler buy a longer boat for example? And why is the Hurricane the most popular seemlingly right now and win so many races when its short and light? Is it all just about weight of the boat at that point?

Just wondering - thanks and no I aint asking what is the best OC1 - too many of those posts - I want design facts just for my own edification.

Gillespie Paddles

Anyone have any experience with them? Just curious - what do they feel like in comparison to either Kialoa or Xylo?

What do your clubs use for club paddles for novices to use?

Seems that novices are rather hard on paddles, often banging them on things or scraping the shaft on the gunwale of the canoe. What do your clubs use for club paddles for novices to use?
