OC-1 made specifically for traditional (no rudder) use?

What recent models of OC-1 are there made specifically for traditional (no rudder) use?

The only recent ones that I have seen around here are a model made by Tiger Canoe (though the description of it seems to be hidden on their web site). Plenty of older Montgomerys around, though, plus people use ruddered OC-1 in traditional races by removing the rudder.

Kai Wa'a Scorpius ???

anyone have any info on this model ??

Calmar OC6

I belong to a club on the US East Coast and we are looking at purchasing some additional OC6s. Does anyone have any input on the Calmar OC6 in BC? How does it steer, good for distance or sprint, best conditions for top performance? General quality comments?

Openocean provided me with some nice input but I was wondering if anyone else out there could comment.

And yes, I did a search on Calmar before I ask this question to make sure we hadn't coverd this topic. LOL

Nohokai Racks?

Has anyone used any of these products? I was at Island Paddler recently and saw these new OC-1 wall and Ceiling racks. I just wanted to know if they are worth the money or is there an better alternative. I like the fact that they are made here in Hawaii, but wanted to know what others thought.

Repairs to leaking Seahorse OC!

Hi all I have an old Seahorse Carbon fibre OC1 about 11 years old which is now starting to leak! I was hoping someone could tell me whether I should use epoxy after a sand back, or polyurathane. I just am not sure what was used, as have been told it is best to use epoxy on epoxy.
Thanks in advance

Pegasus owners chime in PLEASE

Being the owner on a new china made Pegasus I have to ask you all something . How difficult is it for you all to rig your oc's ? Mine is a unbelieveable to rig and while I can get it together with some effort its unbelieveable how difficult it is to get apart and has actually forced some new owners to already sell theirs .

I have tried different ways and thought I got it to a point where I could live with it only to try to unrig the next time and it wouldn't come apart .I even had others try it and they thought it was unbelieveable and figured we were going to damage the hull or ama if we tried any harder .We were told to take 200 grit sandpaper and sand the iako tubes down inside but we left it to the distributor only to have our oc1's come back w/ the paint damaged and still have the same problem.... now they are scrambling to find some to try to repair the paint but the blends show ........ugh !

Its not something I expected w/ a brand new oc1 and the sanding did make the tubes slide in easier into the hull by themselves but try to attach the ama and it becomes a nitemare .Its like the iako's are not bent correct and when you try to attach the front hole first ( forget even consdering trying the rear first) you have to use the ama as leverage and swing the back towards the hull and then try to twist the bottom on the back of the ama inward to try to get the iako to slide down and you actually have to lean on the iako with your chest and pull up hard on the bottom of the ama ........something tells me it shouldn't be like this .

To get it apart you have to push down hard on the rear and then go forward and move the front out just a little (if it will move at all ) and go back to the rear and push down extremely hard again and pray that it will let go and if it doesn't just step back take a deep breath ...pull yourself together and try again in a few, lol.By this time everyone else is gone and your praying the crackling sound isn't doing much damage

any suggestions would be appriciated as everyone seems afraid to touch it for fear of further damage ...sigh

2007 Hurricane OC-1 Questions

Is the 2007 Hurricane an improvement over the previous model? I know that the previous Cane's were a big fragile. What is this 'twist lock' iako?

Since winter is almost over in the North East I'm looking to get a new kanu. I sold my Stingray last season so I'm looking at either the Huki V1-X (Carbon/FG layup) or the '07 Hurricane (Hawaiian East getting shipment in May). Price is almost the same cept I can pickup the Cane and not pay shipping where the Huki will cost $500 to ship to the east coast.

Conditions here are mostly flat unless I go out when there is 20-30mph gust, then I'll see some 2-4 foot chops and crazy crosswinds. Times when the big boats go by then I get their wakes.
