Anyone have a used OC-1 for sale

I am looking for a used OC-1 in good condition in the Washington and Oregon area. Anybody know of one? I just missed out on a C-Lion for $800.00. Please pm me if you have any leads. Thanks

Garmin Edge and Forerunner rebates

For anyone who is interested in a GPS for their canoe there are $50 and $75 rebates available for Garmin Forerunner 305 and Edge 305 GPS units by subscribing to The Powerbar Newsletter before November 30 (powerbar.com). An Edge 305HR cost me about $150 after the rebate. I used pricegrabber.com. I should have got the Forerunner 305 for the same price. It has better waterproofing.

SB Ski/OC1 storage

I am looking for 1 space for a surfski on the racks on the west end of the beach inside the Santa Barbara harbor. I found that some belong to specific clubs, is there a way of getting a space/permit for a non club paddler?

totally off topic

A bit of evidence of what you can do with a little misguided enthusiasm and free time. This has nothing to do with paddling, but if you don't laugh, then you need more help than the guy in this video...

Heads up re Molokai Transient Vacation Rentals

Paddlers planning ahead for Na Wahine o Ke Kai 2008 and Molokai Hoe 2008: Please be aware that Maui County has notified owners of Transient Vacation Rentals (TVRs) on Molokai to cease and desist by January 2008. Unless this issue is resolved, lodging for paddlers may become very limited. Vacation rentals at condos in the Kaluakoi area and Molokai Shores would be illegal. Explore alternative options early, folks! (Possibilities: Hotels, campsites, houses and yards of paddlers who live on Molokai.)

Although the Molokai real estate market is as depressed as the rest of the country, residents at a public hearing of the Molokai Planning Commission vocally testified that TVRs drive up the cost of housing for local residents by reducing the supply of rental housing available for long-term rentals. Hats off to my teammate Dayna Harris who valiantly defended the paddling community by pointing out the positive economic impacts that hundreds of paddlers bring to our shores.

According to the October 28, 2007 issue of the Molokai Times, proposed ordinances that would allow legal TVRs and Bed & Breakfasts have been drafted but not approved. "TVR owners who have not applied to the county for a special use permit are operating illegally and may owe the county a $1,000 initial fine plus a daily fine of $1,000."

"Molokai Planning Commission will not vote on the proposed ordinances until after the public hearing is closed and they feel that sufficient public testimony has been heard. The Maui County Planning Department would prefer that MoPC vote on the issue before the end of the year."

"The portion of the countywide policy plan that affects TVRs was voted on by the commission last week, and included language addressing the issues of identification, registration and enforcement relative to transient vacation rentals in the county. The commission made minor changes to the proposed language and passed their recommendation back to the planning department."

The next meetings of the planning commission will be held Nov. 7 and 14 at 12:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Pau'ole Center.

Stay tuned for further developments.

Opt wins second leg of the Hawaiki Nui Team Hawaii 3rd

Hawaiki Nui 2007 becomes repeat of 2006 as Team OPT wins 2nd leg

(Tahitipresse) - Team OPT won Thursday's second leg of the Hawaiki Nui outrigger canoe race in the Leeward Islands, just as it did a year ago when the Shell Va'a canoe club also won the first leg.

Although the finishing times were not immediately available, Team OPT's victory Thursday in the 26-kilometer (16-mile) course inside the lagoon shared by Raiatea and Taha'a put it in a tie for first place with Shell Va'a.

But although both clubs have the same number of points, Shell Va'a has a slight advantage in the accumulated time for the first two legs. The Shell team won Wednesday's opening leg, a 44.5-kilometer (27.7-mile) course from Huahine to Raiatea with a time of 3 hours 27 minutes. Team OPT finished second.

Thursday's results set the stage for Friday's final leg, a 58-kilometer (36-mile) course from Taha'a to Bora Bora.

Last year, Shell Va'a won the final leg with a time of 4 hours 16 minutes 23 seconds. That gave the club an overall winning time of 9 hours 35 minutes 51 seconds for the 129-kilometer (80.2-mile) race.

Shell Va´a wins first leg of the Hawaiki Nui ahead of OPT

Shell club begins defense of Hawaiki Nui title with 1st leg victory

(Tahitipresse) - The Shell Va'a outrigger canoe club began its defense of the Hawaiki Nui title Wednesday by winning the first leg of this year's event, a 44.5-kilometer (27.7-mile) course from Huahine to Raiatea in the Leeward Islands.

After having won the famous Molokai Hoe race in Hawaii for the second straight year on Oct. 7 with another new record time, the Shell canoe won the first leg of the three-leg Hawaiki Nui race Wednesday with a time of 3 hours 27 minutes. That was much slower than the record time of 3 hours 16 minutes 7 seconds and slightly slower than Shell's winning time last year of 3 hours 21 minutes 24 seconds.

Team OPT finished second Wednesday as the duel between French Polynesia's two top racing clubs continues.

Team OPT will now attempt to repeat last year's win in the second stage Thursday, a 26-kilometer (16-mile) course inside the lagoon shared by Raiatea and Taha'a. Team OPT won that leg last year with a time of 1 hour 57 minutes 4 seconds.

The third and final leg, often the most dramatic stage, will be held Friday with a 58-kilometer (36-mile) course from Taha'a to Bora Bora.

Last year, Shell Va'a won the Taha'a –Bora Bora leg with a time of 4 hours 16 minutes 23 seconds. That gave the club an overall winning time of 9 hours 35 minutes 51 seconds for the 129-kilometer (80.2-mile) race.

Interesting to see the amount of government and media support for the race.

Anyone know the Hawaii crews/members names that are racing?
