Anyone have any New Year's paddling resolutions? As usual I want to loose 10lbs, consistently lift weights twice a week, learn how to fly my ama (without swimming), poke less and paddle more when steering the OC-6 and cross the Chesapeake Bay on my OC-1.

I'm looking for a crosstraining activity, and know little or nothing about paddleboards in Hawaii. I'm not looking for a cutting edge design, but all I've found so far are the 12 footers and they look tippy. A high performance board would be a definite plus but I don't want to spend months adapting, a couple of months is no problem, plus I don't intend to race.

1) How is the learning curve for those 12 footers?
2) What kind of pricing would I be looking at?
3) What other kind of board would be recommended?
4) Who builds locally? Recommendations?
5) pros/cons of different construction techniques?
6) General tips and advice?
7) Are there any websites with the pertinent info for beginners?

i was wondering if anyone had any cross-training tips to get back into paddle shape for oc1 races

I am being sued for an auto accident several years back and now they are asking for estimated values for basically everything I own, including my OC-1. Personally I don't think it is worth alot but would really appreciate somebody elses opinion on the value.

I have a 6 year old Outrigger Connnection Mantra, it has seen quite a bit of work in its days, most recently, a hole had to be cut in the tail of the boat to repair the rudder cable tubes, which had broken and left my broken rudder cables inside the canoe with no way out. It is in good shape now.

I paddle in southern California, where a high volume boat such as the mantra is rarely used to its full potential, in good surf.

any guess would be greatly appreciated.
